French Open 2016, Day 6: Rafa Nadal pulls out with wrist injury; Andy Murray, Kei Nishikori, Stan Wawrinka through; Leander Paes, Rohan Bopanna, Sania Mirza sail

Day 6 at Roland Garros saw Rafa Nadal pulling out with a wrist injury in a major shock and leaves the draw open in the men's field.

Biggest news from Day 6 at Roland Garros didn’t take place on one of the many courts but in the air-conditioned press conference area where Rafa Nadal announced he was pulling out from the tournament with a left wrist injury and had been playing through injections. But on the courts, it was a good day for the top guns as Stan Wawrinka, Andy Murray and Kei Nishikori progressed into the next round. On the women’s side, Garbine Mugurza and Simona Halep advanced while it was curtains for Lucie Safarova and Petra Kvitova. All Indian players won on the day.

French Open Day 6, AS IT HAPPENED:

0006 hrs IST: After two hours and 11 minutes, Troicki gets the job done and beats Simon. Wins 6-4, 6-2, 6-2

0005 hrs IST: Back to deuce.

0005 hrs IST: Troicki saves another break point and brings up match point which he sends long with a volley.

0003 hrs IST: Break point saved with tremendous depth in Troicki’s groundstrokes.

Nadal during his on-going press conference: “I have to retire from the tournament because I have a problem in my wrist that I have since couple of weeks. Yesterday I played with an injection on the wrist. Yesterday night I start to feel more and more pain. I did an MRI…the results are not positive…it’s not broken, but if I keep playing it’s going to be broken the next couple of days”

“That’s part of the life, part of my career. I’m going to keep going hard to recover as quick as possible. We’re going to work hard to be ready for Wimbledon. Every day it’s worse. I cannot play with my forehand.”
