WWE Smackdown Live began its new era by deciding its number one contender for the WWE World Heavyweight title in the form of Dolph Ziggler who will challenge Dean Ambrose at SummerSlam on August 21. The first Smackdown Live since the draft saw a battle royal, a six superstar main event and an in-ring return for Randy Orton against The Miz.

WWE Smackdown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon and General Manager Daniel Bryan started proceedings on the show by bringing the entire locker room down and the big announcement of a six-man or Six-Pack Challenge involving John Cena, Bray Wyatt, Dolph Ziggler, Baron Corbin, AJ Styles and the winner of a Battle Royal. With the Battle Royal beginning right off.

Dean Ambrose had regained his WWE title at Battleground when he prevailed over former The Shield teammates Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins – both now on WWE Raw.

The show also saw Orton interrupting ‘Miz TV’ and set up an impromptu match against the Intercontinental champion The Miz. The match saw Orton delivering his signature move of the RKO not once but twice to send The Miz to the mat and pick up a huge win. Orton faces a daunting task of facing Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.
