Current WWE World Heavyweight title resides at Smackdown Live with Dean Ambrose and this created the need for a main title on Raw and that matter was resolved on Monday. First draft pick Seth Rollins is one of the superstars who will battle for the title at SummerSlam and competing against him would be Finn Baylor. Baylor won a Fatal 4-way and then in the next round beat Roman Reigns who himself had won a Fatal 4-way clash. This was the first main event under the new era which sees two separate rosters and titles for Raw and Smackdown Live. On his birthday, Baylor had more than just one thing to celebrate with a first ever title shot having come through the ranks at NXT.
The eight superstars selected for the two Fatal 4-way events included Sami Zayn, Sheamus, Chris Jericho, Cesaro, Roman Reigns, Rusev, Kevin Owens and Finn Baylor. Baylor, former NXT champion, got a rousing reception when his name was announced and he made it count in the end. Reigns later said he wished for Baylor to win the title at SummerSlam because ‘he deserved it’.
Raw kicked off in Pittsburgh with the new theme song (‘Enemies’ by Shinedown) and new place for the announcers to sit.
