Watch: Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce blows away competition in race at son’s school sports day

A clip from the race, which recently surfaced on social media, shows the Jamaican sprinter burst past the finish line on a grass-covered ground, while the rest of parents are left gasping in her slipstream.

Fraser-Pryce holds the third fastest 100m time in history among women, behind Florence Griffith-Joyner and Elaine Thompson-Herah: a 10.60 seconds effort at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Lausanne in August 2021.

She was clearly keen to avoid the fate that the legendary Mo Farah experienced recently, when he lost a parent’s 100m race to the father of a kid who ran wearing jeans.

Reacting to the video, Olympic and World Champion Michael Johnson tweeted: “At my son’s school parent sports day I was long retired and some of the parents were younger than me. Increased risk of ‘I’m John and I just beat Michael Johnson in a race.’ Nope!”

Fraser-Pryce is likely to start her season at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix, this year’s second World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, in Gaborone on April 29. Last year, she won her fifth world 100m title in Oregon.
