IGST exemption on sports goods import is big boost, says Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore

Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said the government’s decision to exempt imported sports goods of specific nature from the Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) ambit will be a big boost for the country’s sportspersons of “outstanding eminence”.

Olympic silver medallist Rathore thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and the GST Council for the decision.

The sports minister added that the move is a major institutional support for sports and will be a big boost to promoting sports in the country.

The change in IGST exemption will come into effect from November 15.
