Siddharth Desai produced a terrific raiding performance to guide U Mumba to a comfortable 41-20 win over Telugu Titans in the Inter Zone Challenge Week of Pro Kabaddi League Season VI here Tuesday. Rahul Chaudhari created history by becoming the first man to score 700 raid points in Pro Kabaddi but couldn’t save his team from a defeat.
Desai scored 17 points and made life difficult for the Titans’ defence throughout the match. He is also the leading raider of the Pro Kabaddi League Season VI with 83 points so far. Chaudhari opened Telugu Titans’ account with a raid in the first minute. Desai got two quick raid points as U Mumba led 3-1 after two minutes. Mohsen Magsudlou got into the act with Chaudhari as Titans scored five straight points to lead 6-3 in the seventh minute.
Desai continued his hot streak as he piled up points and pressure on the Telugu Titans defence. In the 13th minute, Desai scored a super raid to give U Mumba 13-7 lead as they inflicted the first all out of the match.
Titans’ defence found it difficult to contain Desai in the first half. Chaudhari scored two raid points in two minutes as Titans reduced the deficit to 10-14. At the end of the first half U Mumba led 17-12.
The second half saw Desai at his best again as he scored with a super raid in the 21st minute to give U Mumba 20-12 lead. U Mumba stepped up their game in the first 10 minutes of the second half and inflicted another all out in the 24th minute to lead 25-16.
A moment of history was created in the second half when Chaudhari scored a raid point to become the first man in PKL to reach the 700-raid point mark. However, he wasn’t able to revive his team’s fortunes in the match. U Mumba inflicted another all out in the 31st minute to open a massive 18-point lead.
In the last five minutes, U Mumba gave a run out to few of their bench players as they were ensured of a comfortable victory. U Mumba collected a few tackle points in the last couple of minutes of the match to wrap up an easy 41-20 win.
Tamil Thalaivas ends 5-match losing streak
In the second match tonight, Tamil Thalaivas ended their five-match losing streak by registering a 36-31 win over Puneri Paltan in Inter Zone Challenge Week of Pro Kabaddi Season VI. Ajay Thakur led the charge for Thalaivas as he scored 12 points and reached the 600-point milestone in Pro Kabaddi League. Jasvir Singh chipped in with eight points and important raids for Tamil Thalaivas. GB More who came on a substitute for Puneri Paltan scored 10 points.
It was an evenly contested match with both teams trading raid and tackle points in the first five minutes. Jasvir Singh started brightly for Tamil Thalaivas and Nitin Tomar got couple of raid points for Puneri Paltan. After five minutes both teams were level at 4 points apiece.
Ajay Thakur reached the milestone of 600 raid points in Pro Kabaddi League in the 6 th minute of the match.
Sukesh Hegde and Jasvir supported Thakur with raid points as Tamil Thalaivas led 10-6 after nine minutes. Puneri Paltan forced a super tackle in the 13 th minute as they cut the deficit to just one point.
Tamil Thalaivas inflicted the first all out of the match in the 15 th minute to lead 15-12. Nitin Tomar scored two more raid points for Puneri Paltan as they went in the break trailing 15-16.
Both teams refused to give an inch and fought for every point in the second half. Tamil Thalaivas held a slender advantage for the first 10 minutes as they led 23-20 after 30 minutes.
Ajay Thakur scored an important raid point in the 31 st minute to give Thalaivas a five-point lead. Jasvir Singh scored with a two-point raid as Tamil Thalaivas inflicted another all out to lead 29-20 in the 32 nd minute.
In the 35 th minute Thakur attained a super 10 with a two-point raid to give Thalaivas 31-22 lead. Puneri Paltan tried to mount a comeback but Nitin Tomar’s absence off the court hurt their chances. With less than two minutes left, Tamil Thalaivas led 32-27.
Puneri Paltan scored two quick points in a minute to cut the deficit to 29-32. Jasvir Singh scored a critical two-point in the 39 th minute to give Tamil Thalaivas 34-30 lead. Amit Hooda came up with a strong tackle to send Nitin
Tomar to the bench to ensure Tamil Thalaivas’ victory.
In tomorrow’s matches, Bengaluru Bulls will face Haryana Steelers and Puneri Paltan take on UP Yoddha.
