IPL 2025: Captain Shubman Gill was replaced as an Impact Sub by GT vs RR. In an unusual move, Gujarat Titans decided to replace their captain Shubman Gill as an ‘Impact Sub’ during the IPL 2025 contest against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday.
After setting up Gujarat’s innings with his spell-binding 84-run knock, Gill was strangely subbed out shortly before the Rajasthan innings began. Senior pacer Ishant Sharma took Gill’s spot on the field, as leg-spinner Rashid Khan took over the captaincy duties.

Gill’s substitution is the first high-profile Impact Sub switch of a designated captain in IPL history. Previously, IPL captains Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Sanju Samson have made appearances in certain matches as Impact Subs, albeit in games where they were not the designated leaders.
