IPL 2023: What a win at Wankhede can do to the play-off hopes of MI and RCB

Both MI and RCB have 10 points from 10 games, but Mumbai Indians will be a firm favourites to cement the top-four position, considering they are playing three of their remaining four matches at Wankhede, while RCB only play one at Chinnaswamy.

MI vs RCB playoff scenario: Five teams are locked on 10 points each, and out of them, two Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are going to lock horns at the Wankhede on Tuesday. MI and RCB are not only have the same points after ten games, but their net run rate is also very close.

Sixteen points are said to be the cut-off for playoff qualification, but as things stand, mathematically six teams can finish on 16 or more points.

Even if MI or RCB will win, they might get into that top-four position but will have plenty of work to do, and have to win at least two of their remaining three games.

For the playoff race, MI might have an edge, considering they are playing three of their remaining four matches at Wankhede, while RCB only play one at Chinnaswamy.

MI’s next four matches

Mumbai will play RCB on Tuesday, followed by Gujarat Titans at home. Thereafter they will play one away game against Lucknow Super Giants and then will finish their league against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mumbai.

Unlike MI, RCB will have to play their next three games away, starting from Tuesday. The Faf du Plessis team has been on the road for past week. The only home game they have are against the defending champions, Gujarat Titans.

Both teams have 50-50 win-loss records at home this season, with Mumbai winning two and losing two and RCB winning three and losing three.
