Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Playing 11 Team For Today’s T20 Match: Apart from the win in the last game that halted a sequence of defeats, the biggest positive for Royal Challengers Bangalore was Glenn Maxwell’s impactful 56 off 37 balls. Maxwell is an impact player, which always makes him a high-profile auction catch.
Maxwell form is key
T20 games are basically won by impact batting and/or bowling. For so long AB de Villiers has been RCB’s main impact batsman. But they never had a backup for the South African. RCB brought in Maxwell for Rs 14.25 crore to fill the void and at the business end of the tournament, they need the Australian to fire consistently. A win against Rajasthan Royals would take RCB closer to Playoffs and Virat Kohli’s team would like to build on their last game’s performance.
RCB are likely to go unchanged. But this game presents another opportunity to Yuzvendra Chahal to be in contention for the T20 World Cup next month. An elongated lean patch cost the leg-spinner his place in India’s World Cup squad, but Chahal was excellent during his 3/11 against Mumbai Indians. The ICC has kept it open for the participating teams to amend their squads until October 10. But he needs a string of good performance to stay relevant.
Harshal makes an impact
To a lesser extent, this is applicable to Harshal Patel also; the tournament’s Purple Cap holder at the moment with 23 wickets and fresh from a hat-trick in the last game. This season is showcasing Patel’s development as a white-ball bowler, with the addition of a slower yorker adding depth to his skill-set.
As for Royals, they were poor in their defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad. To be fair though, they have been worst-affected by withdrawals during the second phase of the IPL. Any franchise would suffer if they lose match-winners like Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer. Buttler’s replacement, Liam Livingstone, hasn’t hit his straps yet, playing out of position at No. 4. Maybe, his team would be best served by having Livingstone in his customary opening slot.
As for bowling, Kartik Tyagi would replace Jaydev Unadkat if he is fit.
Rajasthan Royals likely XI: Evin Lewis, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Liam Livingstone, Mahipal Lomror, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Chris Morris, Chetan Sakariya, Kartik Tyagi, Mustafizur Rahman
