India defeat Pakistan 3-1 in Hockey Asia Cup 2017, how it happened

India defeated Pakistan 3-1 on Sunday in the Hockey Asia Cup 2017 Pool A match.

India defeated Pakistan 3-1 in the Hockey Asia Cup 2017 Pool A match on Sunday. For India, Chinglesana, Ramandeep and Harmanpreet got onto the scoresheet while Ali Shaan scored the lone goal for Pakistan. The last time India played Pakistan in a hockey match was at Hockey World League in England where the Roelant Oltmans’ side thrashed Pakistan by 6-1. But things had changed since then. India are now coached by Sjoerd Marine and the focus has shifted to Asia Cup with the side preparing for the Hockey World League final in under two months. India have dominated in their first two games at the Asia Cup 2017 taking place in Bangladesh, thrashing the hosts and Japan 7-0 and 5-1 respectively. In Pakistan’s previous two encounters, they thrashed Bangladesh 7-0 in their campaign- opener, but were held to a 2-2 draw by Japan in their next match. Here are the key highlights from the match

India 3-1 Pakistan: Key Highlights

1845 hrs IST: Full-Time – This is it. India get the better of Pakistan, as was expected, defeating them 3-1. For India, Chinglesana, Ramandeep and Harmanpreet got onto the scoresheet while Ali Shaan scored the lone goal for Pakistan. Both the team missed multiple chances during the match. India had a golden chance when Pakistan was down to 9 players but failed to make the most of it, not scoring a single goal while the team in green was the weakest. But that does not matter anymore. India now stand at the top of Pool A with nine points, qualifying for the Super 4.

1822 hrs IST: GOAL! What a start to the fourth quarter. Pakistan come with a new-found energy, score their first goal through Ali Shan. Next minute, they almost scored their second, received a penalty corner instead. They were, however, not able to convert it. India 3-1 Pakistan

1816 hrs IST: GOAL! India get their energy and confidence back as they score another within just 30 seconds of Ramandeep’s goal. Harmanpreet converts the penalty successfully as the third quarter comes to an end.

1810 hrs IST: GOAL! 2-0 for India as Ramandeep nets in India’s second goal. Looked like he was the only alert man inside the box. Good play by India, who looked desperate for the second goal in the third quarter.

1750 hrs IST: Third quarter underway. Pakistan down to 9 players after Rizwan Senior and Mahmuud receive two yellow cards. This is India’s global opportunity to increase the lead.

1735 hrs IST: HALF-TIME! It is half-time and India has been able to score only one goal so far, unlike their last two encounters in the Hockey Asia Cup tournament. Chinglesana gave India 1-0 lead early in the second quarter with the two teams missing multiple chances in the last two quarters.

1735 hrs IST: Pakistan receive a second penalty corner but they miss it again as India goalkeeper Suraj Kerkera makes a great save to keep the scoreline 1-0 in India’s favour.

1726 hrs IST: GOAL! India take the lead as Chinglensana slots home a cool finish. Within two minutes, India almost take double the lead, miss by inches.

1720 hrs IST: Pakistan got a penalty corner, their chance of opening the scoreline but got dismissed. In return, India charge attack but in vain. That brings us to the end of the first quarter.

1710 hrs IST: Indian midfielders ensure that they have maximum possession. Good start for India. Akashdeep hits the far post. First close attempt by the Indian hockey team.

1700 hrs IST: Match begins between India and Pakistan at the Asia Cup 2017 after national anthems of the respective teams.

1645 hrs IST: Even though coach Marine has asked fans to treat it like any other normal match, an India vs Pakistan, especially hockey, is never just a match. It is war.
