India junior hockey team would be termed the ‘Nawabs’ of Lucknow and of India after they beat Belgium 2-1 in the final of the World Cup in Lucknow on Sunday. With goals from Gurjant Singh and Simranjeet Singh int he first half – or first 22 minutes to be more precise – India will take home their second title after a span of 15 years. Belgium got a consolation goal with the hooter gone and that was probably the only positive for them on the night. But this tournament is a sign of Belgium having grown leaps and bounds in both the senior and junior side of things.
Led by Harjeet Singh and provided attacking vigour by Mandeep Singh, India went in as favourites and showed early proof of that tag.
