Aditi Ashok displayed a lot of calm to overcome a tough first nine to return with a card of two-over 73 at the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino on Thursday. The 18-year-old Indian golfer, opened with a bogey and had two more to be three-over at the turn.
Aditi, who has made four of the five cuts in regular Ladies European Tour events this season and also qualified for Olympics and Women’s British Open, showed great resilience to fight back with one birdie and no bogeys to give herself a chance to survive into the weekend.
Aditi, who is 43rd on the Order of Merit and third in race for the Rookie of the Year, is tied-43rd and Top-60 and ties make the cut for the final rounds.
Meanwhile, Amelia Lewis of the United States shot a four-under-par 68 in hot and breezy conditions at Aloha Golf Club in Marbella to seize a one stroke lead over English trio Florentyna Parker, Rosie Davies and Sophie Walker in the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino.
Lewis, 25, scrambled for her five birdies on the second, fifth, ninth, 12th and 17th holes, but was pleased to escape with just one three-putt bogey at No. 16.
Interestingly, Lewis has her brother, Chris, on the bag as her caddie. Solheim Cup star Azahara Muñoz and amateur Maria Parra are the best placed local players on level par 72.
