Newcastle and Arsenal have been fined by the Football Association after being found guilty of failing to control their players. Both teams have been fined £30,000 each by the association.
The decision came after players from both the sides were involved in a major brawl during their opening day 0-0 draw at St James’ Park. Referee Peter Walton sent off Arsenals Gervinho for his part in the brawl after appearing to slap a Newcastle midfielder in the face. Joey Barton was shown a yellow card.
However, the number of players involved in the incident prompted the FA to investigate further and subsequently charged both sides last week,Sky Sports reports.
An Independent Regulatory Commission today (Tuesday) found both Newcastle United and Arsenal guilty of failing to control their players, a FA statement said.
