After first-team goalkeeper Ederson substituted at half-time because of an injury, Claudio Bravo had to fill in the spot for Manchester City in the second half. But that only lasted till the 81st minute, as he was sent-off for a last-man foul on Josip Ilicic.
Walker had to come off the bench to save the day for Pep Guardiola’s side for about 10 minutes, wearing Claudio Bravo’s goalkeeping shirt. Riyad Mahrez was the one who got substituted on the 88th minute.
The wingback’s first action was to save the resulting free-kick of Hans Hateboer, although, he did spill it onto the ground before scooping up the ball.

“I try and sometimes (wind up) the other keepers in training, telling them to catch it,” Walker said. “But as I found tonight, sometimes you do have to take two touches.”
Although he didn’t have much more to do as City managed to see out the final minutes, Twitter had a field day with the goalkeeping choice.

Think Kyle Walker is the first English goalkeeper to make a save in the Champions League since Ben Hamer in Porto 5-0 Leicester in 2016.

So in the last 12 days we’ve seen a 0-9, a 5-5, a 4-4, Ben Foster having a shot on target and Kyle Walker saving a free-kick. Drink it in.

Earlier, after Raheem Sterling had put the English champions in front in the seventh minute, Gabriel Jesus had a day to forget from the spot.

Manchester City was awarded a penalty shortly before halftime but VAR showed that Rafael Toloi’s shirt tug on Sterling was outside the box and a free-kick was given instead.
However, the resulting free-kick then hit Ilicic’s hand in the wall and, after reviewing it on the pitch-side monitor, referee Aleksei Kulbakov awarded a penalty. But Jesus hit a tame effort wide of the right post, dragging it with his right foot.
Jesus has just taken one of the worst penalties you’ll see.

Later Mario Pasalic made sure to make the Brazilian rue his miss as he equalised four minutes into the second-half for Atalanta.
