Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri will turn up for Bengaluru FC when the new Indian Super League season kicks off on November 17. Apart from facing the possibility of leading them to a first ever ISL title, Chhetri also has another, rather happy problem to tackle. The 33-year-old also ties the knot with Sonam Bhattacharya and, so as to not clash with his commitments to Bengaluru FC, the marriage is spread over one month, according to Times of India.
Sonam Bhattacharya is the daughter of Mohun Bagan great Subrata Bhattacharya. The sangeet ceremony for the marriage will take place will be held between Bengaluru FC’s first and second match. The main wedding ceremony itself will be held on December 4 in Kolkata between Bengaluru’s away games against FC Goa and NorthEast United. That is also a rest day, which means that, with no other matches being held, other players can attend the wedding.
The reception will then be held on December 24 in Bengaluru, which Chettri has called his “adopted city.” Chettri is a popular figure in Bengaluru, having come to the football club despite it being newly formed when he arrived. Chettri’s goals were instrumental in Bengaluru’s run to the final of the AFC Cup in 2016. In the ISL, Chettri had played for Mumbai City FC. He had missed out a good part of last season due to his commitments with Bengaluru FC. When it was decided that the two clubs would play in the same league, Chettri went with Bengaluru FC.
