A few days ago, reports breaking Carlo Ancelotti’s proposed agreement to join the Brazil National team as head coach took over the internet. The Italian manager is set to part ways with Real Madrid in June and will join the Selecao on a one-year contract until the end of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, recent developments place both Ancelotti, Real Madrid and the Brazil team in a pickle, with the Los Blancos reportedly ‘blocking’ the manager’s move to switch allegiances. It is understood that Ancelotti’s move to Brazil is blocked by his current employer, with club President Florentino Perez and the club board of directors standing in the way of the deal.

Why is Real Madrid blocking Ancelotti’s move?

According to a report from Globo Esporte, the Italian was seeking a severance fee from the club as his departure comes one year before the expiration of his contract, in 2026. However, Madrid, upon learning that the manager already has a deal in place with the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), is denying to pay Ancelotti’s fee.

This means that any discussion between Ancelotti and the Brazil team is now void, putting pressure on the Selecao in their desperate search for a new boss. The National team’s last manager, Dorival Junior, was relieved of his responsibilities after a 4-1 humiliation to Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers.

Despite the deal with Brazil falling through, Ancelotti is on his way out of the club at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see how the Italians’ situation develops and which club the veteran will end up managing, if any.

Who is the Ancelotti alternative?

Even though Ancelotti has been on Brazil’s radar and their primary option to hire as manager, with the deal falling through, the Selecao will go searching once again. Besides the 65-year-old, Portuguese tactician and current Al-Hilal manager Jorge Jesus is also on Brazil’s watchlist. The 70-year-old, given Ancelotti’s situation, will rise to the top of the potential candidates for Brazil. Jesus’ Al-Hilal are second in the Saudi Pro League, and with just five games to go till the end of the season, will fit right in place for the Selecao.
