Dortmund started well and dominated most of the half, but their momentum was shattered right at the break as Joshua Kimmich chipped over Roman Burki in the 43rd minute. Although Erling Haaland threatened with his shots and Jadon Sancho and Mario Gotze came on as subs, Dortmund couldn’t do much to put a dent on the well-drilled defending champions. Bayern now enjoy a seven-point lead at the top as they are on 64 points from 28 matches.
As the final whistle blows, the empty stadium is filled with shouts and shrieks of ecstacy by Bayern players as the Bavarians take a lead of 7 points now. Dortmund's excellent form train has been brought to an end by a solitary Joshua Kimmich goal.
Bayern have hold on really well here, and even after showing astute defence performance, they are still creating chances. Goretzka found himself in a bit of space inside the box but his jump wasn't enough, and then Muller scuffs his shot at Burki.
Lewandowski gets the ball after a brilliant lay-off by Muller but his left-footed shot from the outside of the box comes off the post.
The Bundesliga winner is on. Mario Gotze who will leave the club at the end of the season is now on for Piszczek. Dortmund now shift to a four man defence with Hummels and Akanji as two centre-backs. Ten minutes to go...

The last ten minutes, the tempo of the game has slowed down a bit with a lot of tackles flying around from both sides of times. Both Muller and Dahoud have been booked, but so far Bayern are enjoying the advantage as Dortmund are lacking the intent now.
Sancho to Hakimi to Can, who finds Hazard down the left flank who then squares it to Haaland... and his on-target shot is blocked by Alaba. Quick passing play and one-touch football, classic Dortmund football! Almost.
Burki does really really well there to save Goretzka's low shot towards the bottom right corner, but the goalkeeper's strong right hand bails Dortmund out of the situation. The home team know quite well how hard it would be if they were to go two goals down.
Right from the offing, Sancho and Can find themselves in the thick of things as they coordinate with the wingbacks which has often been the outlet for Dortmund. Dahoud finds himself in a bit of space in the middle and chooses to shoot... but Neuer grabs it well.
Bayern restart the proceedings, and Dortmund have made two changes here as Emre Can and Jadon Sancho are on.
Despite the fact that the encounter has so far seen just one goal, it has been thrilling. Shots, chances, half-chances, quick passing moves, aggressive tackles, and a delightful chipped goal right towards the end of the half by Joshua Kimmich. WHAT A GOAL! BEAUTIFUL! Bayern were building on the pressure by passing in and around the box, and after a move between Muller, Coman and then Kimmich, the German midfielder chipped the Dortmund goalkeeper from 20 yards. It rose and rose and then with immense precision it dipped right at the last moment to defy Burki's fingertips. A vital lead before half-time.
Goretzka with a thunderbolt of a 25-yard volley but sadly it was right down the middle and straight into the hands of Burki. Hakimi receives a bellowing from teammates for his miskewed header that led to the chance. Bayern hoping to finish the half on a high.
It's all Julian Brandt lately. He's the one organising the orchestra for Dortmund lately as the left wing turns into the creative channel for the home team. To Guerreiro, to Dahoud, to Delaney, to Hazard, he's linking with one and all.
Two back-to-back attacks from Dortmund! Haaland has an opportunity with his left foot and minutes later Hazard tries to find the striker with a low cross. From a resulting corner, Haaland again finds his head to the ball but it was completely non-threatening.
Dortmund try to create an attack, but the play is stopped after the ball goes out as Lewandowski seems to be in some pain here. Minutes earlier, Piszczek had brought down his fellow Polish international, and the Bayern striker's knee looks to be the trouble.
Bayern have slowly made their mark into this game, as they are jumping on all the second balls in the centre of the park. In a similar fashion, Bayern get the ball and Muller quickly forwards the ball to his right, and Coman shoots to test Burki's strong hands.
Bayern came so so close to taking a surprise lead there! It was going from one end to another, but in a short Bavarian spell, Coman finds Gnabry through a brilliant pass inside the box and the German winger shoots only to find it cleared off the line by Piszczek!
Bayern's got a bit of the ball for sometime now. After Muller failed to connect with a header minutes earlier, Coman gets past the Dortmund defence... but he's brought down by the former Bayern player Hummels. He's yellow carded for that foul.
The ball's in the back of the net, but offside! Dortmund's best attack so far as Hakimi releases Hazard down the right wing and after carrying the ball inside the box, he squares it to Haaland. The Norwegian fails to connect, falls down and via a deflection Hazard finds it again... but he's off. Brandt's header was of no use from the Belgian's cross.
Bayern are pushing quite well though to let Dortmund have possession just in their backline, but they are yet to maintain the ball in the middle of the park. Is Thiago's absence affecting them a bit much? Dortmund have a corner though, but nothing comes off it.
Amidst a lot of shouting, the match has been oscillating from one team to another, but still Dortmund are controlling the tempo by keeping the ball more. And after switching the flanks to Guerreiro, Dortmund create a chance as Brandt finds himself in a bit of space in the left wing and shoots straight at Neuer.
Just 30 seconds in, and Dortmund are approaching the match with gloves off as Haaland has a pop at goal. Although a timid left-footed shot which was cleared off the line, the Black and Yellow are exhibiting all their energy and intent right from the start.
Hansi Flick's men are up against Lucien Favre's men. It's Bayern's 4-2-3-1 against Dortmund's 3-4-3. And after a moment's silence to respect the victims of the Covid-19 pandemic, Dortmund's Haaland starts the proceedings from the centre circle.
Bayern Munich sit top of the table with 61 points while Dortmund trail the champions by 4 points. In the last ten matches, both the teams have been in exceptional form with Bayern winning 31 points and Dortmund winning 30 points. Although the absence of the fans might prove to be a bit of a problem for Dortmund, their recent form and the presence of Haaland might inspire them to get revenge of the earlier 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Bavarians.
