Bruce Arena’s second stint as U.S. football coach will start with an exhibition against Serbia on Jan. 29 at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium.
The match, announced Wednesday, follows a training camp in Carson, California, that opens Jan. 11 and is the first of two planned exhibitions before World Cup qualifying resumes March 24 at home against Honduras. The roster for the exhibitions will be dominated by players from Major League football.
Arena coached the U.S. from 1998-2006, leading the Americans to the 2002 World Cup quarterfinals. He was hired after the team’s first-round elimination in 2006.
Arena replaced Jurgen Klinsmann last month after the U.S. opened the final round of qualifying in North and Central America and the Caribbean with a 2-1 home loss to Mexico and a 4-0 defeat at Costa Rica.
