In the wake of the stumping-gate at Lord’s, with the cricketing world, especially in England and Australia up in arms and throwing dirt at each other, videos of old incidents have been dusted up to show as proof of prior guilt. It’s their way of saying, ‘look look he has done it himself before’.

A new footage of Jonny Bairstow has emerged that shows the Englishman trying to dismiss a batsman in county cricket by waiting for a considerable time before stumping him out.

There is no real connection to the ongoing episode at Lord’s. In this video, Bairstow does what most wicketkeepers from MS Dhoni to others attempt when standing up to spinners pacers. The wicketkeepers do watch out if a batsman stumbles out of the crease, or the back leg is lifted in the air due to imbalance, and whip off the bails to appeal.

Jonny Bairstow expressed shock at his dismissal in the 2nd Ashes Test at Lord’s but new footage has emerged online that shows the Englishman trying to dismiss a batter in county by waiting for a considerable time before stumping him out.

The video comes in the backdrop of Bairstow’s controversial dismissal on the final day.

He had ducked a bouncer from Cameron Green and wandered from his crease to talk with Stokes.

He thought the umpires called “Over,” meaning the ball was dead. Wicketkeeper Alex Carey underarmed the ball into his wickets and Bairstow was out stumped, fairly.

But he couldn’t believe it, and Stokes was livid, thinking Cummins should have withdrawn the decision to be somehow sporting.

The dismissal triggered long and loud booing from the Lord’s crowd and saw Australian players verbally abused by MCC members in the stadium’s usually staid Long Room.

England eventually lost by 43 runs to trail 2-0 in the five-Test series.

But another footage proved that the England keeper had himself tried to use the same stumping tactic during Australia’s innings when Marnus Labuschangne was batting, that is now being deemed as ‘not in the spirit of the game’ after Bairstow’s controversial dismissal at Lord’s.
