New Zealand Cricket CEO Justin Vaughan has said he was blindsided by former South African fast bowler Allan Donald’s coaching snub, and added that he will begin the search for another bowling coach this week.

Donald is all set to be named South Africa’s bowling coach under former Proteas teammate Gary Kirsten.

“Disappointment is probably a bit too mild an adjective. I’m of the school that if you’ve had a conversation and you”ve agreed, then that”s what happens,” Vaughan said last night.

“Allan had a change of heart and that was it really. We’d done a deal, then his dream job turned up,” Stuff.co.nz quoted him,as saying.”

Vaughan heard reports last week linking former fast bowler Donald to South Africa’s coaching staff, but said he had double-checked their accuracy.

Donald made a big impression on young bowlers Tim Southee and Hamish Bennett, and was set to continue working with them after he missed out on the Australian bowling coach’s job to Craig McDermott.

NZC had made arrangements to shift Donald and his family to Christchurch and agreed to terms of his contract. The only thing missing was a signature.
