Sri Lanka vs England, 1st Test Day 4 Highlights:
England win the first Test by 211 runs as Moeen Ali picks up four wickets again to dismiss Sri Lanka for 250. This is England's first Test victory in Galle and first away win in two years! This is also Joe Root's first away win as captain. They have now taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Rangana Herath to bat for the last time
OUT! England are one wicket away from winning the first Test as Dilruwan Perera is gone for 30. Rangana Herath out to bat for the last time. He comes in to a loud applause by both the sides.
Moeen Ali picks up his fourth wicket as Stokes catches Dhananjaya, who is gone for 8. Suranga Lakmal comes to the crease. Sri Lanka are 229/8.
THREE TO GO! The key factor in Sri Lanka's possible defence falls and does so tamely. A soft dimissal sees Angelo Mathews dismissed for 53 runs. Flighted delivery by Moeen Ali, it pitches and stops on the batsman. Mathews wanted to check his flick but ends up chipping a simple catch to Buttler at short mid-wicket. Mathews with fifties in both innings and looks like it would not get the desired result. Sri Lanka are 197/7
First ball into the final session and Moeen Ali has Dickwella walking back immediately. Flighted delivery from round the wicket, Dickwella had to play at it after coming forward, the ball spins away sharply and takes the outside edge. Stokes with a neat take at first slip. Sri Lanka 190/6 and four more wickets needed by England for a first win at Galle
Two balls before the Tea break, Mathews with an extremely courageous leave. The leg break by Rashid spins away and Mathews trusts his instincts to let it pass. It does but was so close to hitting the off-stump on its way. 92 runs from the session with two wickets falling. Sri Lanka are 190/5 at Tea with Mathews unbeaten on 50 and Dickwella on 16
Angelo Mathews brings up his fifty with a boundary and it is a much needed knock for Sri Lanka. Need him to go on for a longer period. Low full toss by Rashid and Mathews whacks it powerfully through mid-wicket to get there. A gentle round of applause from the Galle crowd and his team-mates in the dressing room
WHAT A BALL. Dinesh Chandimal with a dreadful defence too. 'Golden ball' reckons the commentator. And it is a gorgeous delivery. Leach gets the ball to pitch on middle stump and spins away from Chandimal's defence to clatter into the off stump. Chandimal gone for 1 and Sri Lanka are 155/5
Kusal Mendis with a terrible shot! With backs against the wall, that is a terrible shot by a batsman to play. Mendis advances to Jack Leach's looped up delivery and goes for a lofted-drive. But he mistimes it completely and Moeen Ali back-pedals a bit and to his left to take the catch. Just as Sri Lanka were about to end the first hour after lunch without a wicket, Mendis has thrown the momentum away
Saved by the review on the last delivery but this time there is no debate. Gentle good length delivery outside off stump, moving away and Dhananjaya tries to defend without moving his feet and gets a thick edge. Root, the lone man at slip, does well to cling on inches from the ground lunging forward. Sri Lanka are 98/3 at Lunch with Dhananjaya dismissed for 21 runs from 44 balls. Sri Lanka need 364 runs to win and England seven more wickets.
GONE! Sri Lanka review. NOT OUT!
Poor shot by Dhananjaya off Stokes and in the final over before Lunch, Sri Lanka lose a wicket. Full and way outside off stump by Stokses, Dhananjaya throws his bat at it. There was sound on it, umpire Marais Erasmus took a while to raise the finger. Sri Lanka review. UltraEdge has a flat line and the decision is overturned. Replays show that the sound came after the ball passed the bat
Now the other well-set batsman in Karunaratne is dismissed. Moeen Ali the wicket taker this time. Ali holds on to a sharp return catch and Karunaratne walks back without making the most of the second life. Tossed up invitingly outside off, Karunaratne comes darting out and fails to get to the pitch of the delivery. Looks to go the aerial route but makes a right mess of it. Both openers gone - Karunaratne for 26 and Sri Lanka are 59/2
Kaushal Silva is adjudged leg before quickly after the drinks break. Jack Leach the bowler. He opts for the review. No edge, not a no ball and the HawkEye is all-red. GONE! Looked to sweep but misses after getting the line all wrong. It was going on to hit middle. Kaushal Silva dismissed for 30 and Sri Lanka are 51/1
First real chance of the session and its been put down by Ben Stokes at first slip. Moeen Ali the bowler and he is visibly frustrated. Both cover their eyes but for different reasons. That was a simple, simple chance. Karunaratne prods forward to defend but the ball spins away and takes the outside edge to carry to first slip. Stokes gets down low to get his hands on the ball but the attempt to hold on is feeble.
OFF WE GO
Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva come out to resume things for Sri Lanka. James Anderson and Sam Curran to test them early on.
Sri Lanka vs England Live
Pitch Report: There is a bit of rough still present and there is going to be a lot of turn. There are some scratch marks and it's a concern for the batsmen.
Weather: There was heavy rain overnight but it has subsided in the morning. Great job by the groundstaff to get the surface and surrounding areas in proper condition for a timely start. Overcast conditions at the start.
