3rd ODI, SuperSport Park, Centurion, 07 Apr, 2021
Job done for Pakistan as Shaheen cleans up Dupavillon! They win the third ODI by 28 runs and take the series 2-1. Pakistan win the deciding ODI in Centurion, courtesy matchwinning innings by Zaman (101) and Babar Azam (94), and an inspired spell from Mohammad Nawaz(3/34).
Keshav Maharaj goes for the big shot but misses and has his stumps knocked over. Pakistan are just one wicket away as Shaheen Afridi demolishes Maharaj's stumps! South Africa 282-9 in the 48th.
Beuran Hendricks is strangled down the leg side and gloves it to Sarfaraz behind the stumps. SA are 257/8 after 46 overs.
Kyle Verreynne and Andile Phehlukwayo depart in quick succession soon after bringing up a crucial 100-run stand for South Africa. Andile Phehlukwayo (54) looks to clear the boundary but top edges it and is caught Sarfaraz. SA are 255/7 after 45 overs.
Big wicket for Pakistan as Haris Rauf breaks the 108-run partnership. Kyle Verreynne (62) looks to smash it but gets underneath it and is caught on the deep square boundary. SA are 249/6, need 72 off 36 balls now.
Soon after Verrynne's half-century, Andile Phehlukwayo brings up his second ODI 50 off 55 balls. SA are closing the gap but the required rate has risen above 10. SA are 245/5 after 43 overs, need 76 runs in 42 balls.
Kyle Verreynne brings up his second ODI half-century. A calm and composed 50 by the South African in just his fourth ODI. Verreynne and Andile Phehlukwayo are keeping South Africa in with a chance, they've added 81 for the sixth wicket. SA are 222/5 after 40 overs, need 99 off 60 to win
Phehlukwayo cuts it uppishly towards point where Imam-ul-Haq tries to go for the catch but spills it. He looks like he is in pain as after being hit on the right hand. SA are 219/5 after 39 overs.
Verreynne and Phehlukwayo look settled as their partnership ticks over. SA need to build on this and not lose wickets anymore. South Africa need 124 runs from 84 balls with 5 wickets left.
Both the batsman -- Verreynne (16*) and Phehlukwayo (8*) -- have a lot of responsibility on their shoulders. South Africa are still in the contest as they need 166 from 120, but if they lose one more wicket, then defeat might be inevitable. SA: 155/5 (30 overs)
Pakistan are cruising right now! Klaasen (4) tries to up the ante with a slog sweep and misses Nawaz's delivery completely. The umpire raises the finger for a LBW, the batsman reviews it but the umpire's call didn't save the day for him. SA: 140/5 (27.3 overs)
The visitors have completely turned the tables! First Malan and now Bavuma, the hosts' spine has been shattered into pieces by Mohammad Nawaz. He traps Malan on 70 and then bowls Bavuma out on 20. Advantage Pakistan. SA: 128/4 (23.5 overs)
South Africa might have been pegged back a bit, but Malan (55*) keeps the charge going. He reaches his fifty with a boundary while his partner Bavuma (16*) keeps the run-counter ticking with singles. Will there be a nail-biting finish? SA: 108/2 (20 overs)
Absolutely knocked over! Smuts is sent back to the pavilion with an absolute ripper of a delivery from Qadir! All the batsman could do was jackknife downwards as the stumps lit up behind him. He departs on 17. Next up, Bavuma. SA: 77/2 (14.4 overs)
Rauf and Qadir keep the momentum going for the visitors as they look for the second wicket. Markram (38*) and Smuts (5*) hold the fort for now but things are not looking good for South Africa now. No boundaries in the last three overs. SA: 62/1 (12 overs)
Pakistan finally find their breakthrough! Afridi gets his first of the contest... his ball stays low, seams back in from a length, and hits the bat slightly before Sarfaraz completes the catch behind the wickets! He departs on 18 after the review. SA: 54/1 (9 overs)
Malan (17*) joins the party that Markram (17*) started as the opener first smacks Afridi for two majestic fours and then hammers Hasan for his third boundary of the afternoon. He ends the over with a diving two between the wickets. SA: 34/0 (6 overs)
After his opening four in the second over, Markram (15*) finally finds his groove against Hasan Ali. He punishes the bowler in the first ball of the over with a boundary through the covers and then jabs a huge maximum over deep mid-wicket. SA: 18/0 (4 overs)
Janneman Malan and Aiden Markram open the chase for the hosts as Shaheen Afridi restarts the proceedings with the ball. The pacer puts the openers under pressure from early on, conceding just two runs. South Africa still need 319 more. SA: 2/0 (1 over)
Skipper Temba Bavuma and opener Aiden Markram will have the responsibility of setting up the run chase in the absence of Rassie van der Dussen and Quinton de Kock. South Africa have never been able to chase a score in excess of 300 against Pakistan.
