Rohit Paudel speaks after the heartbreaking defeat.

"I think I am very proud of the unit, especially the way we bowled and batted. When we saw the wicket yesterday, we thought it would be on the slower side. When we were bowling I thought the wicket was helping the spinners so we carried on with the spinners. I think we were very close but a little far. In crunch moments we did well, I thought we fought very good. If we get more exposure to games like this, we will be on the other side [of the result]. I want to thank the fans for the way they have been supporting us. They come a long way, in the rain and everything, they come to support us," says Paudel.

The defeat means their chances of making it to the Super 8 are over.

Shamsi speaks at the post-match presentation ceremony: "Definitely relived, we came in with the goal of making it four out of four in this stage. Anywhere we go in the Caribbean, I assume that there is going to be turn. Fast bowlers did a great job in New York, but slower bowlers will have to take on the mantle."

Talking about Nepal, he says: "I think they were brilliant, they took full advantage of the conditions. Wicket got better in the second innings, but they played a beautiful game. The huge positive is that we've been put under pressure every game and we've stood up to it every time. When this team is rolling, everyone knows their roles."

Nepal were on the verge of history! And they fall just a few inches -- and one run -- short of making history.

They needed two runs from the final ball of Ottneil Baartman. The Proteas pacer bowls a bouncer which Gulsan Jha tries to connect with but misses. He and his partner run for byes anyway. Jha cleverly runs in the path of the stumps trying to prevent De Kock from aiming at the bowler's side stumps. De Kock aims anyway and the ball hits Jha's body.

And --- HOW INCREDIBLE IS THIS --- the ball deflects off Jha's body and falls into the hands of Klaasen. Klaasen underhands the ball at the stumps. And it hits the stumps, with Jha a few inches out of the crease.

Nepal have falled one run short of creating history.

Heartbreak for Nepal!

WOW!! Thisis edge-of-the-seat stuff!!

Gulsan Jha is on strike. Baartman has one final ball to rescue this game.

A boundary from Gulsan Jha means that Nepal need four runs off three balls!

Nepal need eight runs off the final over to defeat a full-member nation for the first time.

Gulsan Jha is on strike. Baartman has the ball

Massive six from Sompal Kami brings Nepal back into the game as they need eight runs from the final over to seal a historic win over a full-member nation.

Nepal have played 11 international games against full-member nations. They have lost all 11 of those. Could today be different?

Shamsi started that 18th over at 98/3 and ends it at 100/5.  He ends his spell the same way he started his day, with a two-wicket over.

More importantly he's dismissed the set batter Aasif Sheikh as his final scalp of the night to leave Nepal 16 runs away from victory but with 100 for 6.

Aasif Sheikh b Shamsi 42 (49b 4x4 1x6) SR: 85.71

Shamsi gets Airee caught behind. While the batter reviewed it, the ultra edge showed that there was a faint glove.

Dipendra Singh Airee c †de Kock b Shamsi 6 (11b 0x4 0x6) SR: 54.54

Four more overs left, and Nepal are comfortably placed. Barring that one over from Shamsi, they were never really bothered by the bowling of South Africa (as compared to how the Nelap spinners ran rings around the Proteas batters).

Shamsi still has one more over left.

The 16th over from Markram fetched Nepal four runs. They're taking no risks at the moment. Just completing their chase in singles.

After 16 overs, Nepal are 95-3 | Aasif Sheikh 39 (43b 4x4 1x6), Dipendra Singh Airee 5 (6b)

Nepal have played 11 international games against full-member nations. They have lost all 11 of those games.

Today, Nepal are 25 runs away from a historic win. They have 30 balls and seven wickets in hand.

Nepal is the youngest side in the T20 World Cup this year. Nepal have just the one player over 30, Karan KC, who is 32. And they have piled on the pressure on the South Africa side, brimming with T20 experience.

Besides this, Nepal played their last game 10 days ago, with the Sri Lanka game being washed out.

Aasif Sheikh 37 (39b 4x4 1x6) | Dipendra Singh Airee 3 (4b)

Anil Sah throws away his wicket with Nepal needing just over 30 runs for a historic win. He tries to hit Markram for a big one but the ball falls into the palms of Jansen.

Anil Sah c Jansen b Markram 27 (24b 3x4 1x6) SR: 112.5 | Nepal are 85/3

Aasif Sheikh welcomes him back into the attack with a boundary that is dispatched through sqaure on the leg side. Tristan Stubbs over runs it, the kind of stuff that happens when you're under pressure. But it's on the fifth ball that Sheikh really gives a demonstration of how confident Nepal are feeling. He hoists a short ball from Rabada for a maximum.

Rabada goes for 13 runs.

After 13 overs, Nepal are 82-2 | Anil Sah 25 26 (22b 3x4 1x6), Aasif Sheikh 32 (33b 4x4 1x6)

Tabraiz Shamsi hassled the Nepal batters in his first over, which is why they gave him a lot of respect in the second over.

But Anil Sah has had enough. He slaps the second ball from Shamsi's third over for a maximum. Rabada almost caught that one, but it was just away from his reach.

After 12 overs, Nepal are 69-2 | Anil Sah 25 (21b 3x4 1x6), Aasif Sheikh 20 (28b 3x4)

First ball sent for a boundary. Second ball wide. Third ball boundary again. and wide again on the last ball. A very productive over for Nepal who get 12 runs in that over from Anrich Nortje.

After 11 overs, Nepal are 60-2 | Anil Sah 18 (17b 3x4), Aasif Sheikh 18 (26b 3x4)

The runs have kind of dried up after the two wickets in one over for Tabraiz Shamsi.

But with South Africa's target not being too lofty, Nepal will still be hopeful of an upset in this game.

Around the seventh over, South Africa were handed their first warning for taking more than 60 seconds between overs. *IF* they get three warnings, Nepal will be handed five penalty runs. This is exactly what happened to USA against India.

Tabraiz Shamsi gets the breakthrough and then some! He gets two wickets in his first over. He first gets Bhurtel bowled for 13 runs (21 balls) as the batter tried an audacious reverse sweep. And then, two balls later captain Rohit Paudel departed while trying to smash the ball after going down on his knee and missing the line.

Kushal Bhurtel b Shamsi 13 (21b 1x4 1x6) SR: 61.9 | Rohit Paudel b Shamsi 0 (2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0

Nepal are 36/2 after 8 overs

Tabraiz Shamsi is called into the attack by South Africa. So finally after seven overs, there will be spin from South Africa.

Anrich Nortje comes into bowl the seventh over. Which means still no spin. Nortje ends his first over with a fiery spell. A few short balls. And a 148kph delivery in there as well.

But no wicket, which is what the Proteas will need if they want to make their life easy. just two runs in that over.

After 7 overs, Nepal are 34-0 | Kushal Bhurtel 13 (20b 1x4 1x6), Aasif Sheikh 15 (22b 3x4)

Nepal have managed to navigate their way out of the powerplay overs without losing a single wicket. And you got to wonder why the Proteas have not introduced their spinners yet, especially after how lethal the Nepal spinners appeared in the first innings.

After 6 overs, Nepal are 32-0 | Kushal Bhurtel 12 (18b 1x4 1x6), Aasif Sheikh 14 (18b 3x4)

Could there be an upset on th cards today? Nepal are surely getting plenty of luck so far.

The first ball of the fifth over gors for four byes! Marco Jansen's ball died on its way to the keeper. Quinton de Kock dives to his right, but is beaten and the ball runs away to the fence.

After 5 overs, Nepal are 26-0 | Kushal Bhurtel 11 (16b 1x4 1x6), Aasif Sheikh 10 (14b 2x4)

South Africa have the first change of the night in the bowling as Ottneil Baartman comes in instead of Rabada.

After three dot balls, Aasif Sheikh flicks the fourth ball to the legside boundary with some style!

Oh wow!!! This is some incredible stiff from Nepal and Kushal Bhurtel.

Marco Jansen was being a nuisance to Bhurtel, harassing him for five balls. Then, just when it was startiong to feel that something was about to give, Bhurtel moves down to the off of hte stumps and then helps the ball over the wicketkeeper's head for a maximum.

This is exactly what South Africa had on the scoreboard after three overs.

After 3 overs, Nepal are 16-0 | Aasif Sheikh 5 (7b 1x4), Kushal Bhurtel 11 (11b 1x4 1x6)

Kagiso Rabada comes in to bowl the second over for South Africa. And he looks like he's already causing issues for Aasif, who tries his best to hit Rabada's bouncing deliveries.

On the fifth ball, Rabada gives Aasif a second life after the Nepal batter top edged the ball high. Rabada got in under the ball and then dropped it, barely getting a hand on the ball.

Promptly on the final ball of the second over, Aasif slaps the ball to the boundary. This is just cruel. Insult to injury.

After 2 overs, Nepal are 10-0 | Aasif Sheikh 5 (7b 1x4), Kushal Bhurtel 5 (5b 1x4)

Nepal start their chase with six runs off the first over. And Lady Luck seems to be smiling at Nepal, as Bhurtel edges the fourth ball from Jansen. But the ball breezes past the stumps and beats the keeper to trickle to the boundary.

After 1 over, Nepal are 6-0

Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh are at the crease.

Bhurtel will take strike against the extremely tall Marco Jansen.

Nepal need 116 runs to win what will be the biggest result in their history.

South Africa were 68/1 at one stage and they end the innings at 115/7. The pitch and the spinners had the Proteas batters tied up in knots. This is South Africa's highest total of the tournament.

Nepal need to score 116 runs at 5.80 runs per over.

David Miller, who seemed like he was living on borrowed life after that lucky escape due to umpire's call, throws away his wicket.

He departs for seven runs, as Sandeep Lamichhane makes no mistake. Dipendra Singh Airee gets his third wicket and he ends his four overs quota with figures of 21/3.

David Miller c Lamichhane b Airee 7 (10b 0x4 0x6) SR: 70

South Africa: 99/5 after 18 overs

Lamichhane is back to torment the Proteas in his final over.

He's given away just eight runs off his three overs. But if there has been one problem area for Nepal in this game, it's been their fiedling. Stubbs sweeps the ball and Karan overruns the ball at at deep square leg to allow a boundary. This is the first boundary after five overs or so.

Lamichhane's 4th over ends with 10 runs. He ends his spell with 18 runs from his four overs.

After 17 overs, South Africa are 95-5

Nepal have their fourth wicket!

It's Dipendra Singh Airee who induces a top edge from Hendricks and then finishes it off by catching it.

Airee gets rid off the set batter, Hendricks.

Reeza Hendricks c & b Airee 43 (49b 5x4 1x6) SR: 87.75

What an over from Abinash Bohara, who keeps the pressure on the Proteas.

Just three runs coming off the 15th over and South Africa are 80/3 now. They really need some big hits.

Bhurtel ALMOST gets his second wicket in one over.

David Miller tries to sweep the ball, misses completely and the ball hits the pads. Joel Wilson gave it not out. Nepal review this.

The ball is pitching in line, and there's impact in line. But this is deemed to be clipping the top of the bails and so umpire's call means that Miller gets a second life.

David Miller was on his way to the hut when he stopped and watched the review on the big screen. And he's walked back to the pitch!

After 14 overs, South Africa are 77-3

After limping to 78/3 in 13 overs, Heinrich Klaasen knew they needed an attacking explosion.

He tries to hit Bhurtel for a big one, but only manages to find Karan KC.

Karan makes life difficult for himself by juggling the ball before finally catching it.

Heinrich Klaasen c Karan KC b Bhurtel 3 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 60

This time it's Markram who departs for 15 runs. And who gets the wicket? Bhurtel, who dropped Hendricks in the previous over. This time, he flummoxes the SOuth Africa captain and gets him bowled.

Aiden Markram b Bhurtel 15 (22b 2x4 0x6) SR: 68.18

Kushal Bhurtel what have you done! He drops an easy catch of Reeza Hendricks at the boundary ropes and blames it on the lights.

Abinash Bohara will be dejected particularly after the ball trickled away to the ropes for a four.

He gives away 10 runs in the 11th over.

It's been a slow start from South Africa so far. They have gone through half their quota of overs and have manage to score just 57 runs. That's less than a run a ball.

Kushal Bhurtel has a good first over, giving away just four runs.

After 10 overs, South Africa are 57/1

Sandeep Lamichhane is really turning on the screws on the South Africa batters. He gives away just two runs in his second over.

He's now conceded just four runs off two overs!!

After nine overs, South Africa are 53/1

Kushal Malla undoes all the good work that his teammate Sandeep Lamichhane in the previous over.

Malla gives away a four and a six as Reeza Hendricks' score jumps to 27 (off 26 balls with 4x4 and 1x6).

At the other end, Aiden Markram is on 7 runs off 11 balls.

South Africa cross the 50-run mark with that six.

Sandeep Lamichhane, who was out of the reckoning for a while, is back and how!!

He bowls a tight first over where he extracted a lot of spin. The graph showed he was getting as much as 7 degrees of turn. He also brought in variations with his balls.

Aiden Markram faces three balls with his partner Reeza Hendricks facing the other three from Sandeep. And they were mostly at their wits end. Just two runs off that over .

After 7 overs, South Africa are 40/1

Kushal Malla is handed the ball as spin is introduced.

Malla manages to keep the South African batters on a tight leash for the first five balls, giving away just three runs. On the final ball though, he bowls slightly shorter in length. Markram's eyes light up and he creams the ball between cover and mid-off.

This is South Africa's best powerplay in the tournament. After six overs, South Africa are 38/1

Karan starts off with conceding back-to-back boundaries on the fourth and fifth deliveries as Hendricks lofts the first one over point and guiding the second through midwicket.

That over undid all the pressure Nepal were piling on the Proteas batters.

After five overs, South Africa are 22/1

.

Six runs and a wicket in the fourth over there. A good start for the Asian side. While South Africa have so far hit only two boundaries, one of which wa an edge from De Kock.

Karan KC comes into the attack as the first change for Nepal.

After four overs, South Africa are 22/1

A big wicket for Nepal as Dipendra Singh Airee gets rid of South Africa captain Quinton de Kock for 10 runs.

The Proteas captain got an arm ball from Airee and it looked like it almost stopped on him. The best he could do is push at it, and the ball came generously straight to Airee, who takes the easiest catch he would have to in his career.

Quinton de Kock c & b Airee 10 (11b 1x4 0x6) SR: 90.9

A decent start for Nepal with the ball. Sompal Kami gives away just the four runs, that too four leg byes.

They won't mind that too much as long as they're being put to the sword by the Proteas batters.

After one over, South Africa are 4/0

Sompal Kami has been handed the new ball by Nepal.

For South Africa, Reeza Hendricks will face him while Quinton de Kock is at the non-striker's end.

The experts point out that there is a gentle breeze around the ground at 12 kmph. The boundaries are 67 and 61 meters on the square sides while they're 76 meters down the ground. The experts, including Dale Steyn, further add that there is a bit of grass that should assist the spinners and the pacers as well. It's a pitch where 160 should be a par score. South Africa's pace battery will really relish bowling on this surface.

This is the first meeting between South Africa and Nepal in international cricket.

Sandeep Lamichhane has joined the squad and is in the playing XI today. The leg-spinners brings a ton of experience to the side.

Quinton de Kock(WK), Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram(C), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Ottneil Baartman, Tabraiz Shamsi (in for Keshav Maharaj).

The on-ground analysts note that Maharaj had some strapping on his left ankle before he left his hotel. That explains the decision to replace him.

Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh(WK), Anil Sah, Rohit Paudel(C), Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airee, Gulshan Jha, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Sandeep Lamichhane (in for Sagar Dhakal), Abinash Bohara.

So one change in the Nepal playing XI.

Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel explaining his decison to bowl first says they are expecting dew in the second innings, which is why they want to chase.

South Africa captain Aiden Markram says he would have batted first as well.

So both captains getting exaclt what they wanted.

South Africa are taking on Nepal at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent ion a Group D clash today.

Here is the tournament situation for both teams heading into the game:

South Africa:

South Africa have already booked their place for the next round with a hat-trick of wins and are unbeaten in the competition so far.

Despite the heavy hitters in the side, in their previous game against Bangladesh, South Africa could only manage 113 runs after batting first. Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller added 79 runs for the 5th wicket.

Their bowling unit has been in decent form, restricting Bangladesh to 109 in the last game, winning by 4 runs in the end. Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, and Anrich Nortje were among the wickets.

Nepal:

In their two games, Nepal have had one loss and another game being abandoned due to rain. They are in a must-win situation today if they are to keep their hopes alive of going into the Super 8 stage. Nepal played the Netherlands in their first game where they faced testing conditions. The batting could only muster 106 runs but the bowlers gave a tough fight and took the game in the penultimate over but came on the losing side.

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the South Africa vs Nepal game.
