Adelaide Strikers’ all-rounder Sophie Devine wreaked havoc on Melbourne Stars bowler Madeline Penna in the final over of the WBBL clash at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide on Sunday. Devine struck five sixes in a row off the last five balls of Strikers’ innings.
The opener targetted the leg-side boundary-smashing the ball from long on to deep midwicket region. She got the strike on the second ball when Katie Mack took a single. Devine missed a chance to achieve the rare feat of hitting six sixes in an over.

The opener remained unbeaten 85 runs from 56 deliveries, which included six fours and five sixes, and the late flourish also helped Adelaide Strikers post 164 for four wickets in first innings.
Her late blows was the difference between both the sides as the hosts won the match by 17 runs. Lizelle Lee and Mignon du Preez kept the visitors alive in the chase as they scored 52 and 70 respectively. However, apart from the duo, no other Melbourne players could resist the Adelaide bowling attack as they lost seven wickets for just 29 runs.
The Kiwi all-rounder bowled the last over as well. Skipper Suzie Bates asked her to defend 22 runs in the final over. She gave just four runs in the over and took the wicket of Annabel Sutherland. She ended her spell with two wickets in four overs, while giving away 19 runs.
Devine was named ‘Player of the Match’ for her all-round performance.
