Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT 2025-26) Updates, Round 4: The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament will reach the half-way mark in the league stage today with a host of matches being played across four venues in Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Hyderabad and Kolkata.
Varun Chakaravarthy’s Tamil Nadu have been punished with a huge score from Karnataka after opting to bowl first. BR Sharath and Mayank Agarawal powered Karnataka to a superb start, with a 69-run partnership in just 33 balls for the first wicket. However, it was southpaw Devdutt Padikkal who lit up the innings, starting his knock with a first-ball six off left-arm pacer T Natarajan over mid-wicket.
Padikkal then motored to his third Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy century in no time, clobbering nearly half of his runs from Natarajan (45 off 17 deliveries). The left-hander finished unbeaten on 102 as Karnataka vaunted to 245 for three – their second-highest SMAT total.
Karnataka proceeded to crush TN’s knockout hopes by inflicting a huge 145-run defeat.
Hardik Pandya is back in action for the first time since the Asia Cup and it has not been an easy start for him. Opening the bowling, he has been taken for 26 runs in two overs by Punjab’s belligerent openers Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh. Pandya ended up conceding 52 runs in four overs, returning the solitary wicket of Anmolpreet Singh.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the youngest batter to record a century in SMAT history. And he does it with effortless ease in only his 5th T20 match for Bihar.More on his record-breaking feat here
