Former India batsman Virender Sehwag turned 38 on Thursday and in typical ‘Viru’ style, he received and thanked fellow cricketers on wishing him birthday. The swashbuckling former opener has built a reputation for being a laugh riot on Twitter as has been visible in his banter with Piers Morgan, unique way in wishing people and jovial way of doing commentary.

Prior to this second inning, Sehwag had set the mark with his incredible batting style where the Haryana batsman played in his own fashion and style without paying heed to the format of the game – Test, one day or T20. Sehwag holds the record of being the only Indian to have scored a 300 in a Test inning – not just once but twice. He scored 319 against South Africa in 2008 and 309 against Pakistan in Multan which earned him the tag of ‘Sultan of Multan’.

Sehwag also goes by the nickname ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ owing to name of his birthplace.

As the big-hitting batsman turns 38, former and current cricketers took to Twitter to wish Sehwag. It was led by one of Sehwag’s most prolific partner in the middle – Sachin Tendulkar. “He’s the sweetest man who has caused so much destruction! Happy Birthday Lala!,” wrote Tendulkar on the microblogging website.

Sehwag also received wishes from across oceans with Shane Warne – one of the bowlers to be handed a treatment by the Indian batsmen – sending in his best. “Happy birthday my friend, the game of cricket misses your exciting batting and all round entertainment!,” wrote the former Aussie leg-spinner.

Current India coach Anil Kumble also wished Sehwag in his typical calm and composed demeanour. “Happy birthday Viru. Enjoy the day and the year ahead. God bless!,” wrote ‘Jumbo’.

After a long and illustrious career with the willow, Viru has shifted focus to holding the microphone and using his wit to make everyone laugh.
