The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is all set to appoint former Test player Mudassar Nazar as the head of its new cricket committee, which has been constituted to look after all international and domestic affairs related to the game.

A well placed source in the PCB told PTI that the Board will make an official announcement about Mudassar’s appointment next week although it had already taken a decision and had asked the former Test all-rounder to start work on his assignment.

PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan two days back also confirmed the appointment of Mudassar as the Director of regional cricket academies giving him an important role in the National Cricket Academy as well in the Pakistan cricket hierarchy.

Mudassar, 60, has resigned from his coaching position in the ICC’s global cricket academy in Dubai to take up the PCB assignment which apparently will fetch him a monthly salary of around one million rupees and other perks and benefits.

Mudassar, who played 76 Tests and 122 ODIs, was also in the running for the Pakistan team’s head coach’s position recently.

The source said that former Test spinner Iqbal Qasim and former national women’s cricket captain Urooj Mumtaz will be the other two members of the cricket committee with more members to be added soon.

“The PCB has appointed its head of international cricket operations as the secretary of the cricket committee,” the source said.

The cricket committee was previously headed by a non-cricketer Shakil Shaikh.

Shaikh, who heads the Islamabad Cricket Association, has now been adjusted as the chairman of a domestic cricket advisory committee which will assist the cricket committee in running the domestic structure smoothly.

Shaikh had also faced criticism from Pakistan’s former captain and great Wasim Akram who had questioned his cricketing credentials to be heading the powerful cricket committee.
