Prime Minister Narendra Modi has resigned as the president of Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), one of the major governing bodies for cricket in Gujarat. The Ahmedabad-based cricketing body has called for a special general body meeting in about two weeks time to elect a new president.
“Modji had submitted his resignation on Thursday. Now we will meet on June 13 to elect a new president,” said Rajesh Patel, secretary of GCA.
Modi’s trusted aide, Amit Shah, currently holds the post of vice-president in this cricketing body. According to sources in GCA, Amit Shah is likely to be elected as the new chief.
