Michael Vaughan slams Darren Lehmann for questioning Joe Root’s greatness

Former Australia player and coach Darren Lehman has said since Root is yet to score a century in Australia, he should not be considered as an all-time great batter.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan disagrees with Darren Lehman’s comments on Joe Root being “rung below” Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Steve Smith.

Speaking on ABC, the former Australia coach has opined that since Root is yet to score a century in Australia, he should not be considered as an all-time great batter.

“What a load of nonsense,” Vaughan said on SEN Mornings in response to Lehmann.

“We’re talking about a player that could quite easily – if he stays fit and that back stays strong – surpass Sachin Tendulkar in a few years (for overall Test runs).

“Just because he’s not got a hundred here in Australia, this isn’t the be-all and end-all.
