Markram b Ferguson 28(18)

Arshdeep continues as Markram guides the first ball just beyond the fielder in the circle for the first boundary of the match. Ufff and he's dropped by Arshdeep. Came very fast at him and he couldn't cup his palms around it on time. And Markram lofts the next ball over long on for another boundary!! Smashes the next one to the off side boundary to rub more salt into Arshdeep's wounds. A single to end this over.

LSG 20/1 after 3 overs

Ferguson in the attack now and Markram nudges one the first one to third man for a single. Follows that up with a wide as Lockie is not happy with himself. 2 dots and a single follows as the Kiwi pacer keeps it tight. Just 4 from this one. Excellent over.

LSG 7/1 after 2 overs

Arshdeep steams in and Markram leaves the first ball. Not too often do you see a leave on the offside in T20s. Nudges the next one towrads long on but no runs. Finally a single to get off mark and the destructive Marsh is on strike. AND OUT!!! That surprised him, gets an edge and that's high up in the air and Jansen catches it!!

Mitchell Marsh c Marco Jansen b Arshdeep Singh 0(1)

Here come the two LSG openers Mitch Marsh and Aiden Markram. Arshdeep Singh with the new ball in his hands. Let's get on with it!!

It's a red soil pitch completely. It's a high-scoring venue irrespective of the pitch that has been used. One thing that favours the bowlers in the big nature of this ground. The dimensions are 70m and 64m square boundaries, it's 77m down the ground. Red soil pitch tends to have more pace and bounce. This surface has an even covering of grass and looks brilliant. There won't be much seam movement. There could be some turn and bounce for the spinners though. There won't be much dew, says Deep Dasgupta

Shreyas Iyer: We are going to bowl first. It's a new ground, new pitch so we are going to chase. The players have the freedom to express themselves. You have to play the situation, the important goal is to win. We try to keep things simple. We don't know how the pitch is going to play but we have to adjust quickly. Lockie comes into the team.

Rishabh Pant: We wanted to bowl first as well but happy to bat first. There are a lot of people who have come to support us, we are definitely going to give our best. No changes for us.

There have been 14 matches played at the Ekana with team batting first winning 7 times while the team chasing have won 6 times. Teams which have won the toss have won 8 times while teams who have lost the toss have won 5 times. The highest team total here is 235/6 by the Kolkata Knight Riders vs the Lucknow Super Giants in 2024 while the lowest score here is 108 runs by LSG against Royal challengers Bengaluru in 2023. The highest run chase achieved here is 170/4 by Delhi Capitals vs LSG.

While 23-year-old pacer Ashwani Kumar was waltzing with his smooth run-to to dismiss Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane, besides Rinku Singh, Manish Pandey and Andre Russell during Mumbai India’s demolition of thrice IPL champions at Wankhede, father Harkesh Kumar was looking at a cycle leaning in a corner.

It was the ride on which his son would sometimes cover the 11 km distance to IS Bindra PCA Stadium to play matches from their village Jhanjheri. (READ MORE)

Shreyas Iyer missed out on a hundred against the Gujarat Titans in what was his first match as the Punjab Kings captain in the team’s opening game of the Indian Premier League 2025 season.

Shreyas ended the match with an unbeaten 97 runs off 42 balls while Shashank Singh, the Punjab side’s designated finisher, ended with 44 off 16 balls. In fact, Shreyas could have easily crossed the 100-run milestone since he was batting on 97 when the 19th over had ended. But rather than asking his batting partner Shashank to hand over strike to him, Shreyas ordered him to go for the kill. The result: Shashank hit five boundaries in the final over to plunder 23 runs off Mohammed Siraj in the 20th over.

Shreyas Iyer was peeved that he didn’t get enough credit when Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL title last year, with the coaching staff – most notably Gautam Gambhir and Chandrakant Pandit – walking away with most of the kudos. At a new franchise now, Iyer had a chance to stamp his authority at the start, and he led from the front as his unbeaten 97 off just 42 balls took Punjab Kings to an imposing total.

The weather in Lucknow is expected to be pretty hot with the temperature lingering in the 33 degrees-region. There's no rain in sight so expect a clear sky and uninterrupted match.

Even with Lucknow's pace bowling problems, they have managed to keep SRH and DC quiet in long swathes of the encounter. Against Punjab also, expect the pacers to find joy with Avesh Khan in particular the player to watch out for. But with Akash Deep and Mayank Yadav still not fit and Mohsin Khan out for the season, it's only a matter of time when a opposition batting lineup puts LSG's inexperienced pacers to the sword
