The build up of Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan ICC World T20 match

It’s good to carry underdogs tag: Mathews

Undergoing a transition phase, defending champions Sri Lanka may not be in their elements in the build-up to the ICC World T20 but skipper Angelo Mathews on Wednesday said it is good to carry the underdogs tag as it does not put the team under pressure.

Sri Lanka fret over Malinga’s fitness

AT THE practice session on Wednesday morning, Lasith Malinga bowled a few deliveries with a shortened run-up in the nets before putting an ice pack on his injured knee. The Sri Lankan team management must have taken it with a pinch of salt. The flip side is that the Sri Lanka T20 captain has been recovering steadily ever since he picked up the injury following his match-winning spell against UAE in the Asia Cup last month. However, judging by the nature of his injury, it is quite safe to assume that the 33-year-old still didn’t look fit enough to play a high-intensity competitive fixture.

There is a bit of aspirational professionalism in most Associate teams. In some ways they are the feebler shadows of more accomplished full-member teams. Afghanistan, though, is almost all heart and joy. This isn’t to say they don’t play like professionals, but they have the soul of amateurs
