RPS vs DD, IPL 2016: Ajinkya Rahane had RPS coasting but their chase was stopped by rain. In the end, RPS won by 19 runs (D/L method)

Put into bat, DD could only muster 121 which could have been even lesser had it not been for Chris Morris’ final over cameo. In reply, RPS were never disturbed to continue forward. Rain interrupted play twice by when RPS were comfortably ahead of Duckworth Lewis par score. The loss would hurt DD’s hopes of making the play-offs. (IPL 2016 TABLE/STANDINGS)

2341 hrs IST: RPS are 76/1 after 11. DLS par is 57 as covers come on once again.

2338 hrs IST: SIX! Rahane just about clears the rope with a flat six!

2313 hrs IST: No official word yet but it has stopped raining and the outfield looks dry.

2252 hrs IST: Inspection at 11.15 PM. The rain has stopped but drying up process is underway.

2246 hrs IST: Well that didn’t take long but it has stopped rain in Vizag. But some time before game resumes.

2228 hrs IST: Last ball of the 7th over and Bailey edges the ball straight on to his helmet. Luckily the helmet doesn’t drop and hit the stumps or the ball trickle down to the stumps!

2221 hrs IST: Ajinkya Rahane brings the Powerplay to a close with a glorious cover drive. RPS are 44/1.

2202 hrs IST: Zaheer Khan bowls one on the pads and Khawaja calmly plays it down for a four. Next ball, Khawaja uses the off side with an uppish shot but it’s safe.

2200 hrs IST: Short, outside off and width for Rahane to use and he does. Plays an uppish shot that clears the boundary on one bounce.

2046 hrs IST: Superb piece of spin bowling by Zampa! Sanju Samson comes down the track and is bedazzled by the leg spin, MS Dhoni removes the bails behind him. DD’s woes compounded further – 49/3.

I will never trade my ‘copybook style’ for fancy shots, says Ajinkya Rahane

The shortest format may have resulted in change of batting philosophy for many but India’s star batsman Ajinkya Rahane says that he will never trade his “copybook style” for fancy shots as it has brought him success in his short but eventful career at the highest level.
