Pakistan, chasing 194, got off to a brisk start but kept losing wickets at regular intervals. There was a partnership developing between Umar Akmal and Khalid Latif but the former’s departure, and another Shahid Afridi failure with the bat, put Pakistan on the mat in the stiff chase. In the end, they fell short of the target by 21 runs. (STATS || POINTS TABLE || FIXTURES)

The build-up

Strugglers slugfest on the cards in Mohali

Even at the best of times, Pakistan are a divided camp. If you needed a proof of that, Shoaib Malik gave it on Thursday. “In the 2009 (Pakistani) team (that won the WorldT20 in England), six of us were not talking during the World Cup, but still we won. When you lose, a lot of people start talking this should have happened or that should not have not happened. But, in 2009 it was so obvious, six of us were not talking,” Malik revealed at the press conference at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium.

We have to play better: Steve Smith

Australia will have to play better cricket than what they have managed to do so far in the World T20 to have a shot at reaching the semifinals, captain Steve Smith said on Thursday.

There is bad mood rising in the Pakistan camp

It’s a mood story: A bad mood story.

Waqar Younis’s tone at the press conference after the 22-run loss to New Zealand at the PCA Stadium late on Monday, wasn’t as much sarcastic as it was bilious. To a more detached mind, it might have felt a bit of an over-reaction given that the loss, Pakistan’s second in the tournament, hasn’t completely shut the door on them.

There is no groupism in the team: Shehzad

Pakistan’s experienced opener, Ahmed Shehzad has squashed speculations of groupism in the team, saying he didn’t under-performed deliberately during the World Twenty20 match against New Zealand to undermine skipper Shahid Afridi.
