England took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the second Test by 9 wickets in Chester-le-Street. Sri Lanka set a target of 79 which England chased down losing only 1 wicket.

1937 hrs IST: England are back in the middle with Alex Hales and Alastair Cook in the middle. Another reminder that Cook is five away from 10,000 runs.
1926 hrs IST: Chris Woakes has his second wicket as Suranga Lakmal top-edges it with Stuart Broad taking the catch at mid-on. And Sri Lanka are all out for 475. TARGET FOR ENGLAND: 79 runs.
1914 hrs IST: Now there’s something we don’t see often. Aleem Dar feels sick and he’s walked off the ground with Rod Tucker taking his place. David Millns is the new third umpire.
1907 hrs IST: BOWLED! Chandimal goes for a huge hit but misses and Broad scraps the outside of the off stump. Chandimal gets a standing ovation as he goes back after scoring 126. SL are 453/9 and lead by 56.
1847 hrs IST: BOWLED AND FIFER FOR ANDERSON! Eranga went for the wrong line and has his off stump removed! SL 442/8
1831 hrs IST: WICKET! Relief for England as Herath departs after putting up 61 and a brave stand of 116 with Chandimal. There’s a review for LBW and the third umpire finds it was going to hit middle and leg stump.
1729 hrs IST: And Sri Lanka are in the lead. 400 runs brought on by a glorious drive for a four by Chandimal. And that’s lunch too! Sri Lanka are 403/6 at lunch. Dinesh Chandimal is unbeaten on 108 and giving him good company is Rangana Herath at 37.
1720 hrs IST: CENTURY! Chandimal gets a four and he throws his hands up in sheer joy. Kisses the helmet and gestures at the dressing room and his wife in attendance. Sixth Test century for Chandimal and his first outside Asia.
1655 hrs IST: Sri Lanka in a good place now. Just 20 runs behind so they are likely to make England bat again and avoid embarrassment of back-to-back innings defeats. But they need to score high to stand a chance to win this.
1624 hrs IST: Massive, massive appeal for LBW! Chris Woakes has Chandimal hit across and there is a REVIEW by Cook. Third umpire has a look, even though it did look like it was high, and reckons it caught a bit of edge. NOT OUT!
1551 hrs IST: First boundary of the day. Chandimal slashes and he slashes it well enough to send the ball racing to the ropes for a four as Stuart Broad looks on.
1546 hrs IST: WICKET! Slightly fuller length by Anderson and Siriwardana drives but gets a thick outside edge to be taken by Hales at gully. Sri Lanka are 314/6.
1525 hrs IST: Play to commence with Dinesh Chandimal and Milinda Siriwardana in the middle. James Anderson opens the bowling with plenty of cloud cover. Three slips and a gully in place.
England moved towards victory in the second Test against Sri Lanka whose batsmen showed sufficient resolve on Sunday to push the game into a fourth day if not affect a result that still seems inevitable.
