The Maxwell-Miller combine has ensured that Kings XI Punjab won the top-of-the-table clash against Chennai Super Kings, and the side will go into the clash against Kolkata Knight Riders in sterling form. Kolkata will be looking over their backs anxiously and a couple of losses and they would have to win all their remaining games to qualify.

The top dogs

Glenn Maxwell (460 runs at a s/r of 204) and David Miller (284 runs at s/r of 168) have not only made the most runs for their sides, but also at a strike rates that are distinctly better than any one else. Against Chennai at Barabati, Maxwell smashed a 38-ball 90. Miller played second fiddle with a 32-ball 47. Against Bangalore at Chinnaswamy on Friday, the South African led the charge with a 29-ball 66 after Maxwell departed for a quickfire 25. Now Kolkata are in the line of fire.

Maxwell versus Narine

Maxwell has one of the better reverse sweeps in the game, which he employed successfully against Kolkata’s mystery spinner Sunil Narine in the first leg at Abu Dhabi. But it was a very brief encounter as Narine bowled just one over in his first spell and Maxwell was castled early in his innings by Morne Morkel. Cuttack awaits Round 2.

Sharma swings it late

Sandeep Sharma is another Indian swing bowler who bowls at mid 120s, but his ability to move the ball both ways is an asset. Sharma has 13 wickets in six matches at an economy rate of 6.90. The list includes Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli (twice each).
