Well this is very interesting now, we can see Nitish Rana arguing pretty vehemently with the fourth umpire as Stubbs walks off. Turns out Stubbs had asked for a glove change before this ball, Karun Nair was there ready with it with coach Hemang Badani at the boundary line but the fourth umpire didn't allow them to take it to the middle. Well, the delivery was again on a hard length on middle and off, where Overton has plugged away all night. Stubbs tries to send it over mid off, caught there by Noor and he walks off livid, gesturing at the umpire. Well no surprises if there are fines and punishments coming DC's way for all that after this game.

Well it looks like CSK are all but assured a first win of the season now. Jamie Overton with his third wicket of the match. Fourth ball of the 16th is a length ball outside off, Nabi throws the kitchen sink at it. It pops up to extra cover where Akeal Hossein first over runs, then dives back and takes the catch over his head. Gaikwad came running in for the same catch and is stood over the collapsed Hossein with his hands on his mouth. All smiles in the end though.

Ashutosh Sharma, who knows a thing or two about winning matches from improbable situations, is out there now with Tristan Stubbs. Some luck for Stubbs in the 14th over, Gujapneet's third ball was short outside off. Stubbs threw his bat at it, outside edge and Khaleel with a rather clumsy effort at short third, lets it go for four. Single next ball.

15 runs off that 11th over by Noor, there is that double-digit over DC were looking for. Noor goes short fifth ball and Miller sends it over deep midwicket for a six. The last ball is wide first. Then Noor sends it right in the slot for Miller and the South Africa clobbers it back over the bowler's head for four.

Well, two excellent innings and two non-events now for Sameer Rizvi this season. Dewald Brevis takes the catch and immediately turns behind to gee up the crowd.

Pathum Nissanka has to go! Well he was dropped off the first ball of that sixth over by Kamboj, with Khaleel putting down a regulation catch at short fine leg. The next ball is on middle and off, Nissanka tries to meet it with a checked drive and ends up sending it straight into the hands of Brevis at mid on.

KL Rahul is into the act and Nissanka continues to fire away. This is a good start for DC. Anshul Kamboj comes in to bowl the fourth over, Rahul welcomes him with a boundary to fine leg. Nissanka then smashes the fourth ball over deep midwicket for a six and fifth is sent past midwicket for four. Single to finish the over.

The very first ball from Akeal Hossein, he oversteps. Which is just bizarre. He follows up with a drag-down on middle and off, Nissanka smashes it through midwicket for four. And then two dot balls, almost a third. But Nissanka manages to evade midwicket and takes a single and moreover, Hosein has overstepped there again. Rahul has a free hit to start off with, he smashes towards square leg where where Noor makes a sharp stop and it is a dot ball. Single off the next ball and that's that.

This is what Sanju Samson had to tell Ravi Shastri in an interview to the broadcasters at the break: "Yes sir, feels great thanks to you. I think you seem to be my lucky person to meet before every game, so please come every game sir, happy. Yes sir, absolutely. I think to be very honest, I think how much ever form you are in, how much ever matches you have won for your country, a couple of failures definitely put lot of doubts in your mind. But I just wanted to go back and do my basics and believe in myself and just stick to my scoring patterns actually. So a lot of thoughts came, I think should I go harder in the start or should I change my gameplan. But I definitely want to stick to what was working and luckily it came off beautifully today. I think great wicket. I think thanks for that curator for making a lovely wicket today. So hopefully we can defend the total. Yes sir, I think to start off it was definitely holding a bit. It was sticking on a bit and when Aksar bowled in the powerplay, the ball was holding with the new ball. But when the ball became old, I think it got a great wicket to bat on. And we just stuck to our basics and I was definitely had a great partnership with Aayush. I think such a great youngster. I think really enjoyed batting with him. No sir, nowadays you can't set a target in mind. You just have to, once you are set in, I think you just have to look at as much a big score as you can put on the board. So I think that was the plan to just keep going. We didn't lose much wickets. We had a very long batting order to come. So it was just about picking your bowlers, picking your options and sticking to contribute as much as possible. It's definitely a challenging score to be very honest, I think. But with the amount of bowlers which we have, I think if we have a good powerplay, I think it will be really good."

Well Shivam Dube has not quite got going the way CSK would've liked. Did they miss a trick by holding Brevis back? Well, he has one more over to show that he is the guy for this. Meanwhile, Samson has ended the 19th over with a six off Ngidi. He is on 112 off 54, Dube on eight off six and the latter will be facing Mukesh Kumar first ball of the last over.

Shivam Dube is coming out at No.4. For all that talk of Dewald Brevis's return, he might not bat at all today. Mhatre goes having scored 59 in 36 balls. An excellent innings but such are the demands of T20 cricket nowadays...

19 runs off Natarajan in the 15th! After that first-ball six that Mhatre past fifty, he takes a single. Once again, Natarajan digs in the third ball outside off, Samson sends it over deep midwicket as well for a six. Natarajan goes full and wide next ball, Samson sends it past backward point for four. Two more singles after that.

Kuldeep gets a pasting here and Mhatre is starting to match Samson's aggression. Samson takes a single first ball and then Mhatre slogs at the second which is full outside off. It goes high in the sky and just about evades Stubbs at long on for six. Mhatre then hits it just over the bowler and takes a single, Kuldeep may have got a finger on it. Two more singles after that and then the last ball is on a length outside off. Samson sends it sailing over extra cover for six. Kuldeep seemed a little stunned by how in the world Samson managed to hit that.

Samson is on 77 off 38, Mhatre on 25 off 16.

CSK 119/1 in 12 overs

Wide called for the last ball outside off, the umpire calls it wide but Mukesh convinces Axar to review it. There was a small part of the ball inside the tramline and so the wide call is reversed.

Captain gets captain! Second ball of Axar's over is back of a length on middle and leg, Gaikwad is rushed into the pull as it skids on. Miscued high up in the air and deep midwicket has an easy catch to take. A forgettable night with the bat for the CSK captain.

T Natarajan bowls the fifth over and it is a good one. Gaikwad clips the second ball past mid on and the batters run three. Two singles come next and then Samson goes over covers again for four.

And well, worryingly for DC, he is looking quite good indeed. Mukesh Kumar bowls the second over. Samson takes a single first ball, two dots follow before Gaikwad gets off strike. The fifth is a length ball honing in on Samson's pads, he puts it away to the fine leg boundary for a four and gets to 13. Then Mukesh goes full on off, Samson stays in the crease and offers the full face of the bat, a sumptuous shot straight past the bowler for another four.

Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad are out there for CSK. Auqib Nabi to bowl the first over for DC. What a moment for the pacer and for Jammu-Kashmir.

His was the fairytale inside the fairytale that was Jammu and Kashmir's run to the Ranji Trophy title. P Krishna Kumar, Jammu and Kashmir’s bowling coach in Ranji Trophy, never doubted that Auqib Nabi Dar was the sharpest arrow in his quiver. But the warrior needed his charioteer to guide him with direction. “When I came to J&K as coach, it was evident Auqib had a beautiful natural bowling action, like Md Shami’s wrist position. But his outswinger needed variations for him to become effective. Not only is he a skilled bowler, he learns quickly,” coach Krishna says about the leading domestic wicket-taker, though it’s early days in the Ranji season – only two matches old.

Well DC make two changes, which wasn't expected. Auqib Nabi, the hero of J&K's Ranji Trophy and a favourite to make it to the Indian Test side the next time they play, is set to make his IPL debut. That will be intresting to see. Ashutosh Sharma, who had turned a few heads with some extraordinary match-winning knocks last season, is also in the squad. Nitish and Vipraj go out.

For CSK, Dewald Brevis is back at last, Gurjapneet Singh is in as well.

It is not just that CSK have not yet won a match this season. They have not even come close to doing so. All three matches they have played thus far ended in comprehensive, with CSK hardly looking capable of winning at any point in those games. Moreover, their last defeat was the sixth consecutive loss they have suffered at the Chepauk Stadium.

Lungi Ngidi’s devilishly-dipping slower ball was the delivery of the tournament pretty much in the T20 World Cup and it continues to pay dividends in the IPL for Delhi Capitals. It was Dwayne Bravo perfected and Ngidi made his own. It didn’t come easy.

It was an IPL season at CSK when Ngidi wasn’t playing much. Dwayne Bravo was his teammate, the master of slower deliveries with 631 T20 wickets to his name. The West Indian all-rounder had turned the variation into an art form, mixing off-cutters with wide yorkers, keeping batsmen guessing even when they knew what was coming. Ngidi would watch him in the nets, study his release, ask questions.

There are two versions of Sanju Samson that fans would be familiar with. One is the version we saw towards the end of the 2026 T20 World Cup. In this form, Samson is untouchable. He can win matches, and as it turned out for India, tournaments as well, almost on his own. And then there is the version that kept coming up after the first few matches of IPL seasons for RR, or who couold be seen in India's early games in the T20 World Cup and the series against New Zealand before that. This version of Samson seems absolutely unsure of what to play off the front or backfoot and tends to go on the kind of lean runs that would end many careers. Unfortunately for CSK, it is this second version that seems to be playing for them at the moment. Sanju Samson is yet to register a double digit score for CSK this season, having been dismissed on 6, 7 and 9 thus far. Hey, the numbers are in the ascending order so maybe there will be a big jump today.

There just seems to be no limit for this boy. Every time you think he has probably played THE defining innings of this phase of his career, he goes and does something new and extraordinary, like he did yesterday against RCB.
