With just two weeks to go for the final of Indian Premier League season nine, the battle for a spot in the play-offs is getting interesting. While two teams – RPS and KXIP – are out of contention, the remaining six teams still have a chance to make it to the play-offs. Not only the play-off but the teams will try hard to finish in top two of the points table. The top play Qualifier 1 on May 24 while the third and fourth teams play Eliminator 1 on May 25. Winner of Qualifier 1 will reach the final while the loser will get another chance as it will play Qualifier 2 against the winner of Eliminator 1 on May 27. (IPL table/standings)

Currently, according to the points table before the RPS vs DD match on May 17, this is how the teams can make the play-offs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (16 points)
The team closest to securing to a play-off berth is SRH. With 16 points with two matches remaining, SRH are all but sure of qualifying. They can confirm their spot with a win in one of the remaining two matches against Delhi and Kolkata.

Kolkata Knight Riders (14 points)
Kolkata have been through a lot of ups and downs this season with the loss to RCB on Monday hampering their chance to qualify. In their remaining two matches, they have to win both to assure themselves of a play-off spot. Even one win can keep them in contention given other results go their way.

Mumbai Indians (14 points)
Defending champions Mumbai have their task cut out. They have just the one match left and have to win it. Also, they need to hope they are good wit the run-rate as others can also reach 16 points.

Gujarat Lions (12 points)
The Lions have seen a slump in their form after the initial high. They have lost 4 out of their last 5 matches. They need to beat Mumbai and Kolkata to stand a chance to qualify

Royal Challengers Bangalore (12 points)
To secure a play-off spot, RCB need to beat KXIP and DD in their last two matches. If they win one, their hopes will rely on NRR.

Delhi Daredevils (12 points)
DD have three matches in hand. Three wins could fetch their six points and spot in play-offs. Also, the top spot if Hyderabad lose all their matches. But DD need two wins from the last 3 matches to qualify.

Kings XI Punjab (8 points)
KXIP are one of the two teams which is out of the contention. They have two games left and would like to finish on a high.

Rising Pune Supergiants (6 points)
RPS are last in the points table. They are also out of the play-off contention. They have two games left and one against KXIP. A win that match can stop them from finishing bottom of the table.
