Nothing beats playing for the country, says an excited Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir has returned to India's Test set-up after two years for the remaining home Tests against New Zealand.

After his inclusion in India’s Test squad against New Zealand due to injury to KL Rahul, Gautam Gambhir has acknowledged the selectors and supporters who prayed for his return to international cricket.

KL Rahul, who was part of India’s historic 500th Test in Kanpur, injured his right hamstring while running between the wickets. Thus needing a change in personnel for the subsequent matches in Kolkata and Indore.

Gambhir took to Twitter to acknowledge his fans as he was recalled into the Test team after two years.

“Excitement of a debutant, certainty of experienced, nervousness of a novice…am feeling it all. Eden here I come loaded with ambitions,” said Gambhir in the tweet.

The left-handed batsmen, who leads Kolkata Knight Riders in Indian Premier League, also showcased his excitement of being selected for the home series.

“Nothing beats playing again for d [the] country. Test cricket, whites, red ball and India cap again. Thanks BCCI, thanks to all for the prayers.” added the veteran.

Gambhir was picked after showing good form in the Duleep Trophy, the domestic first-class tournament featuring the top-performing players in the country. He scored 356 runs in the competition from five innings at 71.20, and was dismissed only once without getting to a half-century.
