Virat Kohli, who took over the captaincy from MS Dhoni, has been a different captain than his predecessor. He is expressive and aggressive on the field and that was once again visible on the opening day of India’s third Test against England in Mohali. The Indian skipper got involved into a verbal spat with Ben Stokes during England’s first innings.
After being stumped by Parthiv Patel, who is making a Test comeback after eight years, Stokes was walking back disappointed when the incident took place. It is difficult to understand what is being said by the two players and it eventually needed intervention from umpire Marais Erasmus.
It is difficult to see who started the exchange but heated verbal volleys were thrown at each other by the two players.
Ben Stokes had scored 29 and had smashed five fours, before his stay in the middle was stopped by Ravindra Jadeja with Patel producing quick glovework behind the stumps.
After winning the toss in Mohali and electing to bat first, visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals and Stokes’ wicket made sure that misery continued in their side of the pavillion.
