India were on the back foot for the first two sessions of Day 1 of the fourth Test match against England at Wankhede stadium. Keaton Jennings had a dream debut as with a century in his very first Test match. The Englishman opened the innings with skipper Alastair Cook. The two put on an opening partnership of 99 runs before Cook got dismissed after making 46 runs. Jennings then struck up another big partnership with Moeen Ali. The two of them put up 94 runs for the third wicket.

Jennings got to his century in style, by getting the ball to the boundary with a reverse sweep in Umesh Yadav’s over. With that he became the 19th English batsman to get a century on his Test debut. The former South Africa U-19 player’s efforts were appreciated by the away crowd as Wankhede stadium gave him a standing ovation. But then this was follwoed by India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin stepping up his game.

Ashwin first got Moeen Ali out and then two delvieries later, he got Jennings, thus dismissing for 112 runs. later in the day, Ashwin took the scalp of Jonny Bairstow. Ashwin hence ended the day with four wickets, leading India’s fight back into the game. India didn’t take the new ball on the first day but will look to do whatever it takes to wrap this England as quickly as possible. The will be spitting cobras by the third day and India don’t want top bat in the fourth innings.

Here are a few reactions to the day’s play:

India lead the five match Test series 2-0 and can wrap up the series if they manage to overpower England at Wankhede.
