India vs Australia highlights: Suryakumar Yadav’s 80 and Rinku Singh’s finishing touch help IND to 2-wicket win in Visakhapatnam

With one run needed for victory, Rinku Singh hit the 6th ball of the 20th over from Sean Abbott for a six. But the umpire then signalled a no ball because Abbott had overstepped.

Very happy with the way the boys played. Was very happy with their energy, we were put under pressure but the way everyone showed up was amazing. It’s a proud moment, very proud moment, everytime you play, you think about representing India but coming out here and captaining India is a big moment. Thought there will be a little bit of dew but there wasn’t. It isn’t a big ground and I knew batting will get easy. Thought they might get 230-235 but the bowlers did really well. Just enjoy and express yourself. We’ve been in such situations many times in franchise cricket, just told Ishan to enjoy himself. We knew what was going to happen. I left the luggage of captaincy in the dressing room. I try to enjoy my batting. The atmosphere was amazing, thanks to the crowd. Was great to see how the boys kept their nerves. Was great to see Rinku, the situation was tailor-made for him. He was calm and collected, calmed me down a little bit. Incredible achievement from the bowlers to restrict them to this total after the 16th over.

It was a good match in the end. Inglis got us a score we thought we could defend but the Indians came hard at us. These young Indians play a lot of IPL and T20 cricket. Thought we bowled pretty well, just couldn’t nail our yorkers, easier said than done especially on a small ground like this. Lot of positives to take out from this game. Inglis was class. We thought we did fairly well, Ellis bowled a big over for us to take it into the final over, it went down to the last ball so it shows how close it was.

And that's the end. Rinku Singh finishes off in style for India. He once again kept his composure under the pressure and took his side home haven't we seen this sighter before. Irrespective of the context of the game it has been a brilliant run chase from The Men in Blue. Chasing over 200 runs in T20I is never easy but India did with ease for the most part until the end however all is well that ends well. A positive start for Suryakumar Yadav as a captain as India led the five-match T20I series 1-0. 

India has lost three wickets in quick succession here at the moment and they still need one run from one ball. What a game we are having here at the moment. 

Just when it looked like Australia were getting a sniff in the game Rinku Singh drove the ball down the ground to get a boundary to ease the pressure and bring back India to the game. It is not over yet for Australia if Abbott can execute his final over well Australia still may snatch a famous victory here. 

India is almost there but not yet. Surya trying to finish this off early gets high on the bat and the ball goes high up in the air for Hardie to take a stunning catch near the boundary running back. Axar Patel has walked into the middle and the onus is on him and Rinku Singh to finish this off and take India ahead in this series. 

The Indian skipper is now looking to finish this off in a hurry. He is now looking at his fluent best. When Tilak Varma fell it felt like maybe Australia had a chance in this one but in the last couple of over Surya with his majestic shot-making turned the momentum completely. Australia is now looking at bowlers who can execute a yorker with perfection.

Tanveer Sangha picks up another wicket. Another brave call by Wade. Despite not needing an extra over from Sangha he turned to him and reaped the rewards. Tilak Varma already getting a couple of boundaries in the over tried to get another one on the off-side and could not get the timing right as the ball went up high in the air for mid-wicket fielder to take a brilliant catch. 

Suryakumar Yadav has now gone past his 50 as well. He brought his landmark with a brilliant shot over long-on which went for a six. Though the wicket is holding up a bit Suryakumar Yadav is continuing on his merry way and not letting the run rate go up as Tilak Varma would get his eye in. 

Ishan Kishan departs as he tries to make an already over from Sangha even bigger. It was a clear plan from Kishan to take on the leg-spinner which paid off for the most part until he got himself out caught at long-off. Wade's gamble to give Sangha that extra over works Tilak Varma has walked into the middle the onus is on him to keep the momentum going. 

The scoring rate has clearly dipped here after the first drinks break not for the lack of trying but looks like there has been a change of plan from the Aussies. The ball is a bit on the older side and the bowlers are hitting the back of the length and asking the batters to generate power. Kishan too after a big over against Sangha has slowed down he needs to get a boundary as well. 

We are done with the first drinks break and there are no prizes for guessing who has dominated the first 10 overs of this innings. Unlike India, Australia have plenty of bowling options which they are trying to rotate and unsettle the batters but it is not working at the moment. Wade might look to bring back Ellis who has a good slower one for a few overs here. 

Australia need to pick wickets here immediately. The way things are looking at the moment it has been all one-way traffic. The batters are finding it far too easy to score boundaries. It might not be a bad thing to do for Wade to just shut down one side of the ground and make the batters just hit on the other side which is a common tactic used by the captains in these high-scoring games. 

Tanveer Sangha has been thrown the ball he did start well in the first over but Kishan is now muscling him over the leg-side. He is an inexperienced bowler and it is a good test for him to bowl in these conditions. He would not have been used to bowl with wet ball and this quality of ball-strikers back in Australia. 

Suryakumar Yadav is playing a good knock here and it is important for India that he stays at the crease as long as possible. Kishan on the other end at the moment is still scoring at run-a-ball which is not ideal, he needs to change the gears quickly. It is one of those chase one wicket falls and the new batter taking a couple of balls to get himself in the run rate goes over the roof. 

The ball is just racing through the boundary at the moment. In the first innings, we saw at least one end was gripping but now it looks like the dew has settled in nicely and the wicket has become a batting paradise. Despite losing a wicket early India has capitalised the Powerplay perfectly. Mathew Wade on the other hand is bringing in the bowling changes. 

Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav has started quickly off the blocks here. He is hitting his vintage sixes at the moment with the flick of the wrist. He looks home in this format where he has to think little while in ODI the excessive time he has more time and hast to get himself is not suiting his game at the moment. It is hard to think this was the same player who batted in the way he did in the final of the World Cup. 

Jaiswal tried to capitalise on Short's over in the Powerplay however, trying to go over long-off region was caught by the mid-off fielder inside the ring. Big wicket for Australia because Jaiswal not only can score a big one but also can score them quickly. Suryakumar Yadav has walked into the middle and India is in a deep hole here at the moment. 

Behrendorff has taken the ball from the other end and he got a bit of movement from this new ball and he bowled a maiden over. Two left-handers are in the middle and Wade has turned to Short early in the piece which seems like a good move because the more the ball rolls on the out-field and gets wet it will be more difficult for the spinners to grip the ball. 

Yasasvi Jaiswal pulls the ball on the leg-side of Marcus Stoinis and the ball reaches the fielder who makes a diving save. However, the drama happened on the pitch when Jaiswal called Gaikwad for the second one and when Ruturaj came half-down the pitch he sent him back and he could no reach back as keeper Wade took off the stumps. Gaikwad departs even without facing a delivery. 

It has been a brilliant effort from the Aussies right from the word go. It was Inglis-mania written all over the innings. He played some sublime shots and the Indian bowlers just did not know where to bowl. If not for a brilliant final over from Mukesh Kumar things would have been a lot worse for the hosts. It will be a fascinating chase folks stay with us for the second innings to catch all the live action. 

Australia have now gone past 200. It has been a brilliant effort from the Aussies put into bat first. Arshdeep Singh bowled a decent pen-ultimate over where he bowled a few wides and slipped in a few good yorkers as well. However David got hold of one which he hit over covers for a maximum which ruined the over.

India has a lot of runs to chase tonight and it will be a good test for the youngsters in the side to show their temperament in this chase. There is also plenty of dew on the outfield which will make batting easier however, it is more of a test of mind-set than skill. Anyways that comes later as of now David and Stoinis are in the middle who need to be contained or this score mag get into 210-220 region pretty quickly. 

Jos Inglis trying to keep the momentum going flicked the ball on the leg-side and was caught at deep-fine leg fielder. It has been a top-class inning which comes to an end. That wicket has saved India 10-15 runs easily at the end. Prasidh has had a horrible day till that wicket and finally some redemption for him after taking a pasting throughout the evening by Inglis.

Brilliant ton from Jos Inglis

Jos Inglis is now nearing his 100 now. He has turned this innings on its head in no time. He is one of those unusual players similar to Jos Buttler who tends to hit bowlers in unorthodox areas which are hard to set a field for. It has been a fabulous innings thus far. Meanwhile, as we update Steve Smith gets himself run out after scoring a 50.

One thing Surya has done well here is he realised one end is turning and the other end is not. As soon as he realised that he made sure both spinners were bowling from that end and giving the seamers a bowl from the other end. As for seamers, Prasidh is struggling today. He just had a horrible game of cricket it is one of those nights he wants to forget. 

A special mention to Axar Patel who bowled a brilliant spell without nothing much to show for. He kept the ball outside the off-stump not letting the delivery come into the arc of the batters to him for sixes. In addition to his lines what stood out was he was throwing the ball slower and giving it more air. In that final over his spell he did beat both the batters in the flight a couple of times.

It's interesting to see how Smith has approached this innings. In the Powerplay he looked to be as aggressive as possible and once the field was spread he started to run hard between the wickets against spinners and looked to anchor the innings while Inglis was dominating the bowling. Meanwhile, as we update Inglis has completed his 50. 

We have reached the first drinks break and it has been absorbing cricket so far. Though the Australians are getting big overs from time to time in the bowling of fast-bowlers you can the effect spinners are having on this one. With 10 overs still to go and nine wickets in hand, Australia are looking good to get at least 180 runs from here.

India fumbled an opportunity to runout Jos Inglis as Bishnoi could not collect the ball cleanly at the non-striker end to clean the stumps. Inglis survives and he is playing some delightful shows on both sides of the squares of the wicket. Surya needs to extremely clever about how he will use his seamers here as they are not getting a lot out of the surface. 

After conceding a boundary of the first ball Mukesh Kumar realised it was not surface for seam-up deliveries and he immediately went back to slower ones which worked for him. Krishna after a poor first over has been brought into the attack with five fielders outside the ring and he is going all around the park. His slower ones seem to be not working at the moment and also Inglis seems to have got a measure of him.

Mukesh Kumar is now brought into attack for the first time and the first ball he delivered Smith drove for a boundary through covers. It looks like a surface which has something for the spinners and not a lot for the seamers. Jos Inglis is a good player of spin alongside Smith it will be interesting to see how they will approach these middle-overs from here on.

Suryakumar Yadav with Axar Patel has also introduced Ravi Bishnoi from the other end who dropped Smith when he gave him a return catch. However, the bowler latter in the over bowled a delivery outside the off-stump which Smith tried to hit over cow-corner and got inside edge onto the stumps. That is a big wicket for India as Short was looking good. Jos Inglis has walked into the middle for Australia. 

Arshdeep Singh made a good comeback in the second over. He mixed up his length deliveries with a few slower ones and seems like they are sticking in the surface at the moment and also shows the dew still has not taken its full effect. Suryakumar Yadav has now turned to Axar Patel with two right-handers in it might not be a bad ploy. 

Steve Smith is looking in the mood to play some shots here. He started off with a few cracking shots and also went down the track to Prasidh in the over to smack him over covers but missed the ball. Looks like Smith is going to celebrate Australia's World Cup victory here by playing a brisk knock here. The surface looks excellent for batting at this point in time and with dew coming in it will get only better. 

Arshdeep Singh has taken the new ball for India and in the past he has shown the ability to swing the new ball and he is getting some swing of this new ball here. For Australia, Steve Smith has walked into the middle and scored a sumptuous boundary. He had a quiet World Cup he would be looking to make some runs today before leaving Indian shores. 

The stands are looking filled here in Vizag the national anthems are done. Abhishek Nayar on AIR predicts the series to be 3-2 if we can get that we will have a cracker on our hands and some absorbing cricket. Australia, on the other hand, lost their first two games comprehensively and looked like a team that was on its way out. But mid-way through the first innings against Sri Lanka, things turned for Pat Cummins’ men who then later went on a run and eventually lifted the trophy on the back of nine straight wins. Mohammed Shami has slammed former Pakistan cricketers for their ridiculous conspiracy theories on the Indian pacers using altered cricket balls in the 2023 World Cup to make a better impact.

“I was not playing but I was hearing all those conspiracy theories. When I played my first match, I took five wickets, in the second I bagged four, then again a fifer in my third game. Few Pakistani cricketers couldn’t digest this fact, how can I help it,” Shami said in an interview with Puma. (Read more)

With the deadline for retentions in the Indian Premier League fast approaching, Avesh Khan has been traded to Rajasthan Royals from Lucknow Super Giants while Devdutt Padikkal made a move the other way around. The swap in the trade window was confirmed by both franchises on Wednesday.

Avesh has so far played 47 IPL matches and has 55 IPL wickets to his name. The right-arm pacer, who represented LSG in 22 matches and picked 26 wickets after joining the franchise in 2022, was traded to RR for his existing fee, the league confirmed. He was recruited by LSG for Rs 10 crore in the mega auction.

Former Pakistan cricketer Abdul Razzaq has implied that Australia’s victory over India in the World Cup final was a win for the sport of cricket, because of how lopsided the advantage was towards the Men in Blue, who were hosting the showpiece event.

The Chennai Super Kings opener has been appointed as the vice-captain of the side. The management seems to have immense faith in his potential both as a batter and also someone who can be part of the leadership group in the coming days. He recently captained the side that won gold at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. With Shubman Gill already cementing one opening slot for years to come these five-match series might be an ideal opportunity to prove that Gaikwad is ready to take another one.

The left-arm-seamer had a brilliant 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep became the leader of the bowling attack. The temperament and calmness to bowl under pressure gave glimpses that he could lead this attack at least in shorter versions of the game. Though there is no doubt about the youngster’s potential, with the way Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj have bowled in the recent World Cup, he might have to prove his mettle again starting from this series.
