Temba Bavuma:

Got a bit crazy at the end. Probably the complacency got to us. Guys tried a couple of things that didn't come off. Very satisfying, mission accomplished for us. Many people didn't give us much of a chance. Hope through our performances, we've been able to get a couple of supporters. Making good strides as a team. Challenge is to get better and better. Quinton's been great. Rassie as well with the bat. He's been tremendous. His game starting to move to the next level. Bowling's been decent. This was a big challenge, a big obstacle in our journey. To come out the way we did - winning Tests, winning ODIs convincingly will do a world of good. What pleased me most - if you look at the Test series, feel like it's the hardest series I've been part of. Indian bowlers asking questions regularly. Even in the field the intensity. Physically we've been challenged - it's been very hot the last couple of weeks. These conditions weren't exactly South African like - more like the subcontinent. Always nice to contribute to the team. Enjoying my batting at the moment. Things are okay at the moment.

22:42 (IST)23 Jan 2022
Quinton de Kock, POTM and POTS:

The pitch wasn't flat at all. Was a wicket where you're never quite in. Came back, had a week of training in Paarl. First game - just trying to find some rhythm. Was still trying to find my feet and then in the second ODI found my rhythm. Get home now for some daddy duties.

KL Rahul speaks:

Deepak gave us a real chance of winning the game. Quite an exciting game, just disappointed we ended up on the losing side. We gave ourselves a real chance, something we can learn from and get better. Quite obvious where we've gone wrong. No shying away from it. At times our shot selection has been poor. Even with the ball we haven't been hitting the right areas consistently. Have played well in patches but haven't built pressure over a long period. Can't fault the boys for the passion and effort. In terms of skill and understanding the situation - sometimes we've gone wrong. But it happens - we've got some new guys in the team. In the one-day series at times we've kept doing the same mistakes. It's early in our journey to the World Cup. We can go back, have some hard conversations. Have had a great time in SA. Have been looked after really well. We've shown a lot of fight.

All over

Now then. 6 from 6. Down to the wire. It's now or never. Single. 5 off 5 now. And that's it. Chahal is gone and the comeback ends. South Africa completes whitewash. They win by 4 runs.

22:16 (IST)23 Jan 2022
WICKET!!!

And it's the penultimate over. India still need 8 runs. Momentum firmly in their favour. Phehlukwayo in the attack. That's one run by Chahal. Bumrah back on strike. And that's another wicket down. Bavuma takes another catch. Match is getting tighter and tighter. India lose 9th wicket. IND 281/9 after 48.3 overs.

22:10 (IST)23 Jan 2022
Chahar gone

India just need 10 from 18 balls now. What a turnaround. Absolutely mindblowing. The bottom order has sprung a surprise. And that's high and taken. Chahar is gone. Pretorious takes the catch off Ngidi. This is a nail-biter. IND 279/8.

22:04 (IST)23 Jan 2022
Chahar's 50

And is it another wicket. South Africa think so but Bumrah reviews. There might have been a nick but it's not so sure. Good review. Bumrah survives. The decision is reversed. And there's a single now. And it's a no ball to boot. Another extra run. They are adding up. And that brings up Chahar's 50. What an innings. IND 271/7 after 46.2 overs.

22:00 (IST)23 Jan 2022
Chahar gives India hope

Chahar is giving India hope. That's two back to back fours. The momentum has well and truly shifted. 14 off this over. Chahar is at 49. What an innings this has been. IND 267/7 after 46 overs.

21:53 (IST)23 Jan 2022
250 up for India

And that's a four by Chahar to Magala this time. He can't, can he? 250 comes up for India. 45 overs gone. IND 253/7.

21:47 (IST)23 Jan 2022
Back to back Sixes

And that's a 6 by Chahar. Pretorius gets absolutely whacked for a 6. And that's another 6 to follow. That's gone to sweeper cover but is it too little too late? 16 off this over. IND 247/7 after 44 overs.

21:38 (IST)23 Jan 2022
7th wicket down

And another!!! Bavuma has taken another catch. He has been everywhere today. Jayant Yadav has to depart now as India lose their 7th wicket.

21:29 (IST)23 Jan 2022
WICKET

And that's another one down. SKY is gone. That's probably the killer blow. Pretorius gets his wicket as Bavuma takes the catch. India 6 wickets down.

21:13 (IST)23 Jan 2022
WICKET!!

And that's another wicket down. Magala strikes. Straight down to Phehlukwayo. Just as there was a hope of this partnership coming good, India has gone and lost another wicket. IND 195/5 after 36.1 overs.

21:08 (IST)23 Jan 2022
SKY, Iyer hold fort

SKY and Shreyas Iyer are trying to steady the Indian innings in front of this potent South African onslaught. SKY hits a glorious shot. Straight down the ground. What a quality shot to Magala. IND 186/4.

20:46 (IST)23 Jan 2022
Kohli gone!!!

And that's a wicket. Kohli is gone!!!! Maharaj gets the big wicket. India wobbling now. Bavuma takes the catch. IND 156/4.

20:23 (IST)23 Jan 2022
50 up for Kohli

And that's a 50 for Virat Kohli. That one was off 63 balls. Have been staying strong as wickets kept falling all around him. And he does a celebration dedicated to his baby girl.

20:16 (IST)23 Jan 2022
OUT!!!

Pant falls. 1st delivery. He's gone for a duck. That's another big wicket for South Africa. Pant slices this. And it's straight down Magala's throat. Phehlukwayo gets his second wicket. IND 118/3.

Different format, same result: India lose second ODI on the trot against SA to concede series

India need to change their white-ball template. That’s the biggest lesson from their ODI series defeat against South Africa. Except Rishabh Pant, and Shardul Thakur and Ravichandran Ashwin’s 48-run partnership at the death, the tourists played fearful cricket in the second ODI as well, losing the game by seven wickets and with that the three-match series.
