After multiple drops in seating capacity – to the tune of nearly 3000 – and lack of clarity over the RP Mehra Block, Feroz Shah Kotla is likely to lose its marquee fixture in ICC World T20 semifinal scheduled for March 30th in New Delhi.
“We were given time till Sunday evening to get clarity over RP Mehra block. Since the case is in court, we have not got any clarity over the same. ICC wants to use that area for branding and also for seating purposes, since semifinal is a big game. We have not received an official word from BCCI or ICC yet, but our deadline ended this evening,” said DDCA treasurer Ravinder Manchanda.
The RP Mehra Block has been a contenscious issue for a long period now and the case has been languishing for a lengthy period of time. But now it looks like the fixture could very well be moved to an undisclosed venue.
Feroz Shah Kotla has already hosted a few group stage games for the women’s World T20 and is set to host more in the men’s department as well. But with a big game like the semifinal, ICC is not keen on losing out on the sponsorship opportunities.
