Playing for Antigua and Barbuda, Shakib picked three wickets in his two-over spell and helped his team beat St Kitts and Nevis Patriots while entering the exclusive list of bowlers who have picked 500 or more wickets in T20 cricket.
Shakib now has 502 wickets in 457 matches, averaging 21.43, while his career economy lies at 6.78. He also has five five-wicket hauls and his best bowling figure is 6/6.
Having taken 499 wickets ahead of the match, Shakib needed only six balls to reach the milestone as he recorded the impressive figures of 3-11 in a low-scoring match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. His figures helped Antigua and Barbuda limit St Kitts and Nevis to 133 for nine in 20 overs. While chasing the modest target, the home team chased down the total in 19.4 overs with seven wickets in hand.
The 38-year-old joins Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, West Indies duo Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Narine (590), and South Africa’s Imran Tahir (554) by reaching the landmark.
Rashid Khan is the highest wicket-taker in this format and has 660 wickets to his name in 487 games. Rashid has picked these wickets at an impressive average of 18.51. Rashid and Bravo are the only two players who have picked 600+ T20 wickets. West Indian modern-day great Bravo has taken 631 wickets in 582 matches. Sunil Narine is third with 590 wickets, while Imran Tahir has 554 wickets to his name.
Among Indians, the player with the most wickets is Yuzvendra Chahal. The 35-year-old has 380 scalps to his name in 326 matches.
