Rana took 3/65 in his 10 overs in the match, removing Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock in the second over before returning in the 22nd over to remove a well-set Brevis. (AP Photo)ndian pacer Harshit Rana was reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi on Sunday.
The incident took place in the 22nd over of the second innings when he gestured towards the dressing room after getting the wicket of Dewald Brevis for 37 in South Africa’s chase of 350 runs.
The 23-year-old was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”
“Rana admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.”
“On-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Rod Tucker, and fourth umpire Rohan Pandit levelled the charge,” an ICC press release said.
Additionally, a demerit point was also added to the pacer’s disciplinary record. It was his first offence in a 24-month period. If a player gets to four or more demerit points during the 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points and the player is banned. Two suspension points can lead to a one-Test or two ODIs or two T20Is ban, whichever comes first.

Addressing the press ahead of the second ODI, he had said that he may not be able to play the game if he focused too much on the outside noise.
“If I get all those into my head, I can’t play cricket. I don’t care what’s said about me outside.I don’t read all that. I just focus on what I need to do on the ground,” he said.
