England entered the cricketing record books with their successful run chase of 230 runs against South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday in the ICC World T20. Joe Root scored 83 runs from 44 balls with six fours and four sixes to spearhead the chase but was ably given support by Jason Roy (43 from 16 balls),  Alex Hales (17 from 7 balls) at the top of the order for the opening wicket. Jos Buttler also chipped in with a quick-fire 21 from 14 balls to keep the foot on the gas.

It has been a harrowing month for South Africa so far. In the second T20I against Australia preceding the World T20, South Africa scored 204 but allowed the visitors to claw back their way in and win the match in Johannesburg.

Rather worryingly for the Proteas, they were on the losing end of three out of five successful T20 run chases. This does little to dispel their ‘chokers’ tag.

With the win on Friday, England raced off to the highest successful World T20 chase and second highest T20 run chase.
