Kohli, who became the first cricketer in IPL to reach the landmark 7,000-run mark, scored his 55 off 46 balls, while Lomror took just 29 deliveries for his unbeaten 54. Delhi Capitals have been in desperate need of better showings in the powerplay. The struggles of their openers - David Warner’s IPL strike rate prior to this game was a dismal 118.46 - have led to the team losing ground early, and coming up against Mohammed Siraj, one of this tournament’s best bowlers with the new ball, was going to be a tough task.
But England opener Phil Salt not only accelerated well enough to set his team up for the run chase, but also totally deflated Suraj, smashing him for 19 in the fifth over. He hit three successive boundaries - two sixes including a top edge and a heave over cover - and then went on to hit a total of six boundaries in the powerplay leaving Delhi at 70-1 after the first six. They have desperately missed this kind of a contribution at the top- Namit Kumar
Harshal Patel introduced for the 11th over and starts with a dot. Marsh slashes the next one and it's over the inner circle for four. He goes for another big hit but not so lucky this time. Gets caught by Lomror. DC 119/2 after 10.3 overs

Karn Sharma in to bowl the 9th and Salt swings. Misses it entirely as it just misses the leg stump, goes through Dinesh Karthik for 4 byes. The next ball is slashed over the infield for 4 more!! And a four off the last ball to get half century. Delhi reach 100. DC 102/1 after 9 overs

Marsh is the new batter and hoicks the 2nd ball he faced for a huge six!!! The next two balls are dots as Hazlewood reins Marsh in for the time being. Does not get hold of thye last ball but it still trickles to the boundary. DC 70/1 after 6 overs
Hazlewood in to bowl the 6th and he strikes. Warner went for it but mistimes it as the ball goes high, Faf underneath it and he takes the catch. Partnership broken. DC 60/1 after 5.1 overs
Siraj steams in to bowl the 5th and Salt pulls, gets the top edge and that's behind for a 6!!! The next ball gets the same treatment as Salt dispatches it for 6 more. What top order trouble? The next ball goes for 4!! What an assault by Salt. Suddenly the tempers are flaring with Siraj jaws with both batters. Fingers are pointed The umpire and Faf defuse it quickly. DC 60/0 after 5 overs
Hasaranga will bowl the 4th and warner picks him up and deposits it for a huge six!! A single to rotate strike. Salt swings for the fences and misses. Just missed the wicket did that delivery. Warner gets the gap again and another boundary. DC 41/0 after 4 overs
Hazlewood to bowl the 3rd and Salt starts this one off with a boundary before rotating strike off the 3rd ball. Great diving fielding by Kohli to save a few runs. The last ball is pulled by Saltt for a six to end the over. DC 29/0 after 3 overs
Maxwell in to bowl the 2nd over and Salt brings back Warner with a single. Warner returns the favour with a single of his own. The fifth ball is short and Salt pounces on it for a boundary. DC 17/0 after 2 overs
Warner and Philip Salt are at the crease. Warner is on strike. Siraj will open the attack. Not a good start for Siraj as Warner smashes him for 2 boundaries. Just 2 more off the other 4 balls. DC 10/0 after 1 over
It (7000 runs in IPL) is just another milestone on the journey. It's a nice number, I just saw it on the screen. If it helps the team, I am happy to contribute. It's a special moment for me, my family is here, my coach is here, Anushka is here. My whole journey started here. I was watched by the selectors at this ground and selected. I feel nothing but gratitude, god has blessed me with such amazing things, I can only bow down. I have always said it from day one, having Anushka on tours with me, it's the most important thing for me. Family time is more important to me than anything else. I just come out and enjoy my cricket, cricket is just a part of my life. It feels great when she (Anushka) comes to watch me in the stadium. My brother and sister is here and their family is here as well. It was unbelievable. 160 was going to be a good score, Lomror came in and changed the game, he shifted the game (momentum) towards us. I was targeting the last three overs, but I think Dinesh and Anuj did a good job. The younger guys playing like this, gives me, Faf and Maxi a lot of confidence. It's a great sign for the team, it was an amazing knock by him tonight.
In one over - Mitchell Marsh’s 11th - the complexion of this game changed. After a solid start, the Bangalore openers couldn’t find the boundaries against Delhi’s well-managed spin attack, there were only three shots that crossed the boundary rope, and no sixes, between overs 7-11, and du Plessis, with scoreboard pressure piling, went after a slow ball spinning outside off and got caught at deep cover. The problems would multiply after Maxwell got foxed by another slower one and got caught behind on his first ball.
Lomor’s brilliant innings - nine boundaries and three sixes on his way to a 50 he got scoring at a strike rate higher than 200 - brought his side’s first-innings total to a respectable 181, but Kohli and Co will regret the mid-innings lull which kept their score 15-20 runs shy of the potential they had after a good powerplay- Namit Kumar
Anuj Rawat is the new batter in and Khaleel misses the yorker!! And that has sailed over for 6!!! a single brings Lomror a strike. Can he finish with a flourish? Another single. 2 balls remain. Single by Anuj and Lomror will face the last ball. Dot to finish. RCB are 181/4 after 20 overs
Last over of the innings and Khaleed Ahmed takes out Dinesh Karthik from the first ball. Warner with the catch. RCB 172/4 After 19.4 overs
Mukesh Kumar to bowl the penultimate over of the innings and Lomror has been given LBW. He reviews straightaway. There's a spike when the ball passes the bat. The decision is reversed and Lomror stays. And gets his 50 with a four!! RCB 172/3 after 19 overs
Khaleel will bowl the 18th. Karthik on strike. Can he replicate his 2022 run, starting from this match. Swings and misses the first ball. Gets a bat to it and the strike is back to Lomror. Lucky as Lomror gets an outside edge and the ball goes behind for a boundary. Inching towards a half century. Wide and a single now as Lomror stays on 48. Karthik ends the over with a huge six!! RCB 166/3 after 18 overs
Ishant to bowl the 17th and incredible power from Lomror to clear extra cover for a four. Back to back wides by Ishant next. Lomror with a single now and Karthik on strike. Nicely placed by Lomror for four more!! RCB 151/3 after 17 overs
Mukesh brought back in the attack and he'll be bowling the 16th. A slip by Warner helps the batters get 2. A single to give the strike back to the free scoring Lomror. He flicks away and it's into the gap for a boundary. 50 partnership up for this duo. Good running to get 2 again. And Kohli is gone. Tries to flick it and it goes straight to Khaleel Ahmed. RCB 137/3 after 16 overs
Mitchell Marsh will bowl the 15th and starts with a wideish ball. Kohli reaches out for it to get a single. Lomror on strike and he pulls for a monster as the ball sails over short leg!!! Another wideish delivery as Lomror takes a single. Kohli on strike at 49 and he gets to 50 with a single. RCB 126/2 after 15 overs
Kuldeep to bowl the 14th and Kohli witha single to start. Calls for 2 but settles for a single. Nice switch hit by Lomror to fetch a boundary. He goes again and clears long off for a six!! Makes it look so easy. Kohli lookes for a big swing, the ball creeps past the bat and he misses. RCB 115/2 after 14 overs
Ishant Sharma will bowl the 13th and Kohli starts off this over with a boundary. Inside out and over extra cover. Glorious shot. The next ball is a dot as Kohli thinks twice about taking a run, decides against it eventually. Quick running between the wickets bring up 100 for Bangalore. RCB 102/2 after 13 overs
Kuldeep Yadav will bowl the 12th and starts with 2 singles. There hasn't been a boundary since the powerplay ended. How quick a game can change. And right as I was writing that, Lomror has picked the 4th ball and deposited it into the crowd. RCB 93/2 after 12 overs
And what do you know!!! Maxwell is gonne the first ball!!! He swings and gets a nick and Salt behind the wicket with the catch. A huge one two punch by Marsh. He's on a hattrick now. RCB 82/2 after 10.4 overs
Marsh will bowl the 11th and has to reload again due to a wide. Faf pulls and gets a single. He has been trying this shot with Marsh since his last over but can't get a proper nick on it. Kohli with a single next as both batters struggle to his the Aussie for a boundary. And it pays dividends as a change of pace forces Faf to go for a hge shot and he holes out to Axar in the deep. RCB 82/1 after 10.3 overs
Kuldeep Yadav will bowl the 10th over and yields five runs from the first four balls. Decent over as it ends with just 7 runs. RCB 79/0 after 10 overs
Axar will bowl the 9th and yields two singles off the first two deliveries. A shout for caught behind as the TV umpire comes into play. Delhi's review. Flat line as the ball passes the bat as DC lose a review. Adding salt to their wounds, Faf goes downtown and deposits the next for four. RCB 72/0 after 9 overs
Kuldeep Yadav in to bowl the 8th and is punished straightaway by Virat Kohli who smashes him for a boundary. Decent comeback by the bowler who yields just 2 off the next 4. RCB 64/0 after 8 overs
Early aggression has been a big part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s success with the bat in this season. The average for their opening partnership, as well as their average score in the powerplay, are both over 50, and Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis have continue in that vein at the Kotla.
Du Plessis, once again, remains the aggressor, and has overturned a good start from Delhi. Warner threw in Khaleel, Axar, and Ishant in the opening three, and they held their own before the South African accelerated against the inexperienced Mukesh Kumar with three fours in his over and then took Khaleel to the cleaners with a six and a four. Orthodox strokeplay meeting attacking batting intent, showcasing why he holds the orange cap- Namit Kumar
Mitchell Marsh introduced in the attack and he'll bowl the 7th over. Yields two singles from two balls as Faf and Kohli rapidly exchange strikes. Two more from the next two as Marsh is chipping in with a tight over. 6 singles off this over. RCB 57/0 after 7 overs
Khaleel Ahmed to complete the powerplay and Faf with a single to start. Kohli on strike and drives the second ball but can only get 2. Great, quick running from the batters to squeeze another single. The fourth ball is smashed for a six while the fifth goes for a boundary. RCB in full control. 50 up. RCB 51/0 after 6 overs
Mukesh Kumar will bowl the penultimate over of the powerplay with Faf on strike. Great shot through the line by The RCB captain to dispatch the second ball for a four. And four more as Kumar struggles to find any movement from the pitch. The fifth ball gets a top edge as Faf pulls and that has run to the boundary as well. Not quite the start Mukesh was looking for. A single to end the over. RCB 36/0 after 5 overs
Axar will bowl the 4th over and starts with 2 dots, The 3rd gets a single as Kohli is back on strike. He rotates the strike as well as the scoreboard keeps ticking along nicely. Just from this over. RCB 23/0 after 4 overs
Ishant Sharma in to bowl the 13th and Faf takes a single to get off strike After that, Kohli gets a bat to the third ball but it goes straight to Ishant who throws it towards the striker's end as Kohli scrambles to get back. The next ball is absolutely smashed for a four by the former RCB captain. RCB 20/0 after 3 overs
Delhi opts for spin in just the second over as Axar Patel comes in. Starts with two dots before Kohli pushes the third for a single. Faf off the mark straight away with a single. Great drive by Kohli to grab another boundary. Marginally short ball but it's punished. RCB 13/0 after 2 overs
Kohli and du Plessis are at the crease. Kohli is on strike. Khaleel Ahmed will open the attack, Great carry straightaway as it ball drifts wide of Kohli who lets it go. The second ball is thrust to the left of Warner for a four!! The crowd goes berserk. The 3rd is the carbon copy of the first ball as Kohli leaves again. 2 more added to the total as Kohli gets the gap. RCB 6/0 after 1 over
GT's Mohammad Shami leads the Purple Cap race with 18 wickets. he is followed by GT's Rashid Khan (18), CSK's Tushar Deshpande (17), PBKS's Arshdeep Singh (16) and MI's Piyush Chawla (15)
RCB's Faf du Plessis leads the Orange Cap race with 466 runs followed by RR's Yashasvi Jaiswal (442), CSK's Devon Conway (414), GT's Shubman Gill (375) and RCB's Virat Kohli (364)
DC Subs: Chetan Sakariya, Lalit Yadav, Ripal Patel, Praveen Dubey, Abhishek Porel.
RCB Subs: Harshal Patel, Suyash Prabhudessai, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Michael Bracewell, Shahbaz Ahmed.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (Playing XI): Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis(c), Anuj Rawat, Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik(w), Kedar Jadhav, Wanindu Hasaranga, Karn Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Josh Hazlewood
Delhi Capitals (Playing XI): David Warner(c), Philip Salt(w), Mitchell Marsh, Rilee Rossouw, Manish Pandey, Aman Hakim Khan, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed
Faf du Plessis: We are going to have a bat, looks like a dry surface, and hopefully there won't be dew tonight. T20 cricket has got to do a lot with momentum, we got to assess the conditions and post a good score. We have got a lot of away games, for me it's not an issue. With this new impact player rule, you can be so flexible. We have batted well in the top four, and we have done bulk of the scoring. Kedar Jadhav comes back for us.
David Warner: We would have batted first as well. We are coming out here with a lot of energy, passion and belief. We can get only better from where we are. All facets of the game, batting, bowling and fielding (looking forward to do well in everything.) It rained today, so there might be no dew I guess. Mukesh Kumar comes in for Anrich Nortje who has gone home and Mitch Marsh comes in as the other overseas player.
It's toss time. The coin goes up and RCB have won the toss and opt to bat first against the Delhi Capitals.
The pitches are normally dry at this venue, hence we don't see too many high scores here. The average score at this venue is 165. This pitch is dry and has got a few cracks in it, that's the reason why bowlers fancy their chances as well. The fast bowlers have taken 29 wickets here, while the spinners have picked 22 wickets. The spinners got to bowl fuller lengths on this sluggish surface.
Mohammad Siraj has been in blistering form in the powerplay while the Delhi batters have been on a downward slide. David Warner has accumulated just 23 in his last 3 innings while his partnership with Philip Salt hasn't really clicked after Prithvi Shaw was left out due to his poor form. The match ups between Siraj and DC batters look like a mismatch on paper but stranger things have happened.
Two Bangalore cricketers are staring at history tonight with Virat Kohli needing 25 to become the first batter to score 7000 runs in the IPL while needing 25 more to score 1000 against DC. Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik needs two catches to overtake MS Dhoni's tally of 208 to become the most successful keeper in IPL history.
Former India cricketer Sreesanth stirred the pot a little bit before the clash between RCB and DC when he said that Kohli should score a ton in the game ‘as a tribute to Dada (Sourav Ganguly).
In the last match against DC, Kohli was in the news after several videos of him and ex-India captain Ganguly ( working as ‘Director of Cricket’ in DC) went viral, which led to social media users opining that the duo might be avoiding each other.
With a win against DC, 5th-placed RCB will be breaking into the top four while Delhi who is in the 10th will look to get off the last position. Here's a look at the points table.
Speaking on the podcast The Grade Cricketer, Delhi Capitals batting coach Shane Watson said there was definitely fire in Virat Kohli’s belly the day Royal Challengers Bangalore played his side, and he wasn’t sure if the reason was Kohli’s tension with DC’s Sourav Ganguly. The two will meet once again tonight as Kohli returns to Delhi for the reverse fixture.
Delhi's Aman Khan who rescued his franchise from a precarious position in the match against Gujarat with a solid 51 at a time when DC were reeling at 23/5, gave the credit of the win to Ishant Sharma.
“A lot of credit goes to Ishan Sharma for winning this match. The way Rahul Tewatia was batting and with Hardik Pandya at the crease and you know Rashid Khan, what he can do,” Aman, who scored his first half century in any format, said.
Ishant Sharma has been having a marvellous season in Delhi colours with the veteran seamer's ball to hoodwink Vijay Shankar in their match against Gujarat Titans the talk of the town. Here's a piece on the dreamy knuckleball that he pulled out of the bag that night.
