The Board of Control for Cricket in India has suspended the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) for one week."Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders," said BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia in a stement.

A month after opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal asked for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to switch from Mumbai to Goa, the Indian opener took a U-turn.

The 23-year-old has now written an email to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to withdraw his NOC and said he is available to represent Mumbai for the next domestic season.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Friday that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been shifted to the UAE because of the ongoing military confrontation with India, leaving the event’s foreign players anxious.

PCB confirmed that the last eight fixtures, which were previously scheduled in Rawalpindi, Multan and Lahore, will now be played in the UAE. “The PCB confirms that the remaining fixtures of the HBL PSL X have been shifted to the UAE,” PCB said in a media release.

After IPL 2025 game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was abandoned mid-way, the Board of Control for Cricket in India said it was "ready with a Plan B" and awaiting "government advice", report The Indian Express' Devendra Pandey and Venkata Krishna B.

Their report, published late on Thursday night on The Indian Express, said: "The unprecedented blackout on the western front on Thursday cast a long shadow on the Indian Premier League. Around 9.35 pm, the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala, about 90 km from Pathankot which saw aerial attacks from across the border, was called off after 10.1 overs. Then, the BCCI went into a huddle to decide the future of the tournament.

'We are monitoring the situation, seeking the Government's advice, and will take the final decision on the IPL tomorrow. The situation is changing day by day. We will do whatever we are told and inform all stakeholders. At the moment, our priority is the safety of all players, fans and stakeholders,” BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla told The Indian Express.

Sitting on 5th spot in the IPL 2025 standings with 14 points from 12 games, Delhi Capitals have two more games left: against the Gujarat Titans on May 11 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi and a game against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 15.

Sitting on 3rd spot in the IPL 2025 standings with 16 points from 12 games, Punjab Kings have two more games left: against the Mumbai Indians on May 11 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad (which was moved from Dharamsala) and a game against the Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on May 16.

The game between the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was abandoned after 10.1 overs. While the BCCI said that there was a 'power outage caused by a significant technical failure in the area which caused one of the light towers to switch off', IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal told news agency IANS that the PBKS vs DC match was 'called off as a precautionary measure, based on the red alert issued in Jammu'. 

The fans at the HPCA Stadium were evacuated after the game was abandoned. 

The Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians game in the Indian Premier League on Sunday was shifted from Dharamsala to Ahmedabad because of the India-Pakistan tensions. The IPL cited logistical challenges on Thursday, the Associated Press reported.

Airports in Dharamsala and Chandigarh — where Punjab Kings are based — have been closed for civilian and commercial purposes since Wednesday. Airports across India's north-western corridor have been similarly closed off owing to the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. With the airports shut down, there was no way for Mumbai Indians to reach Chandigarh or Dharamsala. There was another logistical challenge awaiting the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals squads, as well as broadcast crews, to travel from Dharamsala to their next respective venues.

Punjab Kings stay in third spot in the IPL 2025 standings after the game was abandoned. They were looking good with Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh giving them a flying start in the first 10 overs before the game was abandoned.

And after an abrupt stoppage in the PBKS vs DC game, we have news that the match has been abandoned! 

Initially, it looked like a floodlights malfunction. But then, even as the official broadcasters tried to blame a "significant technical failure at the HPCA Stadium", Arun Dhumal, IPL Chairman told news agency IANS that the PBKS vs DC match was "called off as a precautionary measure, based on the red alert issued in Jammu". 

Media reports said that fans in the HPCA Stadiunm were being evacuated from the stadium.  

Priyansh Arya has a bit of a tired swing at the first ball of Natarajan's first ball of the 11th over and the ball flies into the grateful palms of Madhav Tiwari! And we finally have a wicket! The ball seems to hit the batter's helmet after a top edge. If that had not hit the helmet, maybe it would have landed in a safe area and gone for a four.

First ball of the 10th over from Kuldeep Yadav is hit for a 96-metre six from Priyansh Arya that's landed on the roof. And we have a change of ball here.

The change of ball doesn't help much. Not change in fortunes for Kuldeep as the second ball is also tonked for a six over the head of the bowler. After a quiet third ball, Arya hits a four on the fourth ball. 

16 runs off the first four balls. And now Prabhsimran Singh sinks to his knees, he seems to be battling some cramps. So we have a hold up. And as we restart, Prabhsimran Singh gets to his 50 off just 28 balls! 

As the over ends, Punjab Kings are 122/0. And we are just at the halfway mark of the first innings!

Desperate for a breakthrough, Delhi hand the ball to young debutant Madhav Tiwari the ball. And he's hit for 14 runs in his first over in the IPL. This includes two back-to-back fours from Prabhsimran Singh. 

And we have the Punjab opening batters reaching the 100-rum partnership. 101 runs off 55 balls for the Punjab openers today!  

Kuldeep Yadav comes in. And ends up giving away 10 runs in that over. The highlight of the over was a reverse hit from Priyansh Arya over backward point. That shot came right when Kuldeep and Delhi would have felt that the over was goign very well for them: Kuldeep, after all, had given away just 6 runs off the first four balls. And then, on the fifth ball came the reverse hit slapped to the boundary. 

10 runs off that over. 

Ricky Ponting, talking to the broadcasters, calls Priyansh Arya as 'one of the finds of the tournament'. 

Axar Patel is back to bowl another over and Priyansh Arya tonks the fourth ball of his over for a maximum over the long off boundary. The Delhi Capitals fielder tried his best to grab the ball, but it was a bit much even for him. 

On the next ball, Priyansh Arya works the ball on the leg side to run a single. Priyansh Arya reaches his half century off just 25 balls, thanks to 4 fours and 4 sixes. In his debut IPL season, Priyansh Arya already has his second half century in the IPL. He also has a hundred this season! 

Delhi Capitals hand the ball to T Natarajan, who gets to bowl for the first time this IPL season. And he makes an instant impact! He beats Arya with swing twice in the second and third balls of his over. Just four runs in that over! 

So Punjab Kings reach 69/0 after the powerplay ends. 

So Axar Patel replaces Starc and is tonked for 15 runs! That includes a six off the final ball from Priyansh Arya right after he misses the fifth ball completely and gets lucky not to see his stumps rattled. Axar strayed on the pads, and was tonked! 

There was also a boundary and the batters running for three runs on another ball. 

15 runs coming off that first over from Axar Patel!  

50 runs up for Punjab in just four overs! Two sixes and a four from Priyansh Arya in that over off Chameera. 

Incredible fielding there from Rizvi on the first ball as he dives full length and prevents a certain boundary. Arya smashes the second ball for a 64-metre six on the same side, over Rizvi's head almost! 

On the fourth ball, Chameera flummoxes Arya and gets an inside edge. But thankfully for the Punjab batter, the ball clips the inside edge and hits him on the thigh pad to run away to the boundary past the keeper. A healthy serving of luck here for both Punjab batters so far. 

And Arya ends that over by tonking the final ball for a maximum! 

18 runs coming off that over from Chameera. 

After the first two overs saw Priyansh Arya going for some hits to the fence, we have Prabhsimran Singh taking on Mitchell Starc: he hits the Australian for a boundary on the first ball on the legside, with a casual flick off his pads. Starc responds with a typical fast bowler's reply: a bouncer straight fast his eyeline. 

Two dot balls after the boundary on the first ball. And then, Singh gets an inside edge while going for a drive on the fourth ball, and the ball flies to the boundary past the stumps! Lucky there for the batter. 

Starc responds to this four with a guided bouncer that Singh just about fends off! Singh responds to that yorker by finally getting a drive right! Three boundaries in that over! And we have 12 runs coming off that second over from Starc! 

Chameera comes on and beats Priyansh Arya for line on the first ball!  Arya responds with a single on the next ball. And after another single on ball three, Arya is back at the crease. On the fourth ball, he's beaten once again! 

He responds this time, by walking across the stumps and flicking the ball away to deep backward square leg, where it's kept in bounds by the fielder. And just when we think the over is over, we have a no ball for overstepping.

We would have had just four runs from that over if that no ball wasn't bowled. But Arya hits the free hit ball over the fielders in the circle on the off side for a boundary. 

First ball on the pads of Priyansh Arya from Starc, gets cut and runs away to the boundary! Second ball, Starc over-corrects and sees the ball hoicked over the top of the in-field on the off side and it races away to the boundary again. 

Eight runs off two balls. 

After a dot ball on ball 3, Arya cuts the ball and KL Rahul throws himself on the ground at point to save the ball from reaching the ropes. Good fielding from the Delhi star. 

And there is some drama on the fifth ball as Prabhsimran Singh pulls out of the ball's line right in time before Starc releases the ball. There is someone walking behind the bowler's arm, which hinders the batter's sight. 

Just three singles off the final three balls, so a good comeback from Starc after being hit for two fours on the first two balls! 

So finally after the long delay, we are ready for the game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals.

So the Delhi Capitals will bowl first after a lengthy delay at Dharamsala. Shreyas Iyer has won the toss and opted to bat first. 

Shreyas Iyer explains his decision to bat first by saying: "We'll bat first considering the outfield. If you see the last game, the way our openers started and other batters capitalising, that gives us a fair point to come and bat first. If you see the trend in IPL, the players who are in form and win you matches win you the championship. That's a great motivating factor. The team is in high spirits. It's important we tick the boxes right. You got to stick to your routines. We are going with the same batting line-up."

Axar Patel, Delhi captain, said they would have fielded first because of the weather. He points that the chasing team will have it easier even if there are delays. 

"The wicket will remain the same. It's a long tournament and it's important to be positive," Axar says before revealign that today Madhav Tiwari comes in for Vipraj Nigam in the playing XI. 

So the rains have gone away and the umpires have decided after the ground inspection that the toss will happen at 8.15. The game will start at 8.30 pm. And despite the delay, we will have a full 20 overs game! 

As we are in a hold pattern with a ground inspection coming up shortly, we have Delhi's Mitchell Starc doing an interview with the host broadcaster. 

The Australian is asked about the challenges of playing the IPL.

"You got all the best players in one spot, it’s pretty relentless at times with all the travel and play. One of those days where you compartmentalize and get on with the job. Be attacking - that’s been my role in many formats for many times. I try and be aggressive, swing the ball and make inroads. Try and adapt to conditions as quickly as we can. With the impact player rule, you have to try and think outside the box and think a step ahead. If it’s not swinging you need to find different ways to be effective. As bowlers collectively, people have found that, some have done it better than others," he says. 

Then, talking about the art of bowling yorkers, Starc says: "Comes down to execution, some days it’s going to work and some days it isn’t. Some days you’re going to bowl an over and get the team over the line and some days the batter is going to get you. Been around for long enough to be a goldfish really, think about the next game really quickly. Sometimes you’re going to miss and sometimes you’re going to hit six in a row. Unfortunately it’s not going to happen every time"

So we have the usualy pre-match rituals being done in the middle by players from both sides. Delhi Capitals' pacve spearhead, Mitchell Starc, is spotted marking his run up with paint. And Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer is doing his visualising in front of the stumps on the22-yeard strip that is finally visible now after that blue cover is taken off! Kuldeep Yadav is turning his arm at one corner of the ground. 

Meanwhile, most of the Delhi players including Faf du Plessis and KL Rahul are playing a game of keey-uppies with the football. It seems like the players who are having too much fun in this pursuit, because the player who drops the ball, gets flicked on the forehead by the others players playing. KL Rahul getting his fair share of forehead flicks from teammates, but he's grinning from ear to ear!   

We have visuals of the players from both teams -- Delhi Capitals and the Punjab Kings -- warming up with some football in the middle. We are told that a ground inspection will happen at 8 pm. And that will decide how the rest of the evening pans out. For now, the rain is gone. But the skies in Dharamsala are still pregnant with clouds and the threat of rains is still around. 

Some heartening visuals coming in from Dharamsala. The rains seem have to eased up and the covers are coming off! We have the super soppers rolling around on the ground earning their salary check! The umpires are strolling out on the ground, and have pointedly closed their umbrellas. 

This will be music to the ears of the Punjab Kings players, since they can win today and secure a playoffs spot.  

So the rains in Dharamsala have intensified and the skies have opened up, as we can see in the visuals. 

This will leave five teams on tenterhooks for IPL playoffs spot. 

In an interview with IPL broadcaster JioHotstar, Punjab Kings Shreyas Iyer opened up about the first season of the Indian Premier League in 2008 when he was just 14 years of age and was a ball boy at all the Mumbai Indians games at the Wankhede Stadium.

"I used to play for the U14 Mumbai team and we got the chance to be ball boys for games. I was one of the lucky ones. I got an opportunity to meet all players around the team dugouts. I used to be reserved and shy back then, so I was very hesitant to approach players. But I used to see my friends approaching players. The first player I really met and interacted with was Ross Taylor, who used to be one of my favourites.  I approached him and said, 'Sir, I am a big fan of yours.' This was during the RCB vs Mumbai Indians game. He was very sweet. Back then we used to ask for bat or gloves from big players. But I was so shy, I could not ask for it!" 

He added: "There was another incident. In one game, Irfan Pathan was fielding at long on and sat next to us. He asked us 'mazaa aa raha hai?' We said we loved talking to him. That experience stands out for me."  

A win today for the Punjab Kings could see them became the first team out of the 10 to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs. But for that, they need the rain Gods to relent. Right now, it looks very gloomy in Dharamsala. 

As former India cricketer Murali Karthik said in the pitch report: 'There's a bit of rain in the air. We have had a bit of a delay even to do the pitch report.'

We have visuals of the 22-yard pitch being covered by a blue covers. And now we await the rain to relent so that the match can begin. The weather in Dharamsala is looking grim and cloudy.  

'There's a bit of rain in the air,' says Murali Karthik. 'We have had a bit of a delay even to do the pitch report.'

He adds that the game will be played on pitch 6. 

"Last game, it was pitch 4, we are on pitch no. 6 but it looks very similar. Dimensions - 61m and 68m square boundaries, 75m down the ground. When we have a look at the surface, it is dry, slightly more cracks, it's got that very abrasive nature to it. Last match here, it did turn a little bit more in the second innings but it's a big-scoring ground. Expect lots of runs. Punjab got 236 the other night and then 199 in defence. Delhi have world-class spinners, it might be worth setting (a target) and then spin will come into play," he says. 

Delhi Capitals were jolted by the withdrawal of England batter Harry Brook. In the IPL 2025 mega auction, DC bought the England star for Rs 6.2 crore. But he pulled out of the contract days ahead of the start of the tournament in order to be free and fresh to play for England. While Brook earned a two-season ban for the withdrawal, Delhi spent almost the entirety of the tournament without naming a replacement. 

Finally, on Wednesday, the DC franchise named Sediqullah Atal as a replacement for Harry Brook.

A statement from the IPL said: "Sediqullah Atal from Afghanistan has scored 1507 T20 runs in 49 matches. The left-handed batter made his T20I Debut in 2023 and has represented Afghanistan in all three formats. He will now join DC for his base price of Rs 1.25 crore."

Perennial under-performers in the IPL, Punjab Kings (previously Kings XI Punjab) have looked like the real deal this season under new captain Shreyas Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting. 

The team has a strong Indian presence with Iyer complemented by the likes of Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Shashank Singh, Nehal Wadhera, Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh. 

Former India cricketer-turned-analyst Ajay Jadeja, talking on JioHotstar after PBKS' victory over LSG in their previous IPL game,  highlighted how Punjab Kings' long-term investment in their Indian core is finally paying off. 

“The key for Punjab Kings has been their Indian core. They've invested in players like Prabhsimran Singh for years—even back when Anil [Kumble] was involved. They waited patiently to see him deliver, and now he’s started scoring runs consistently. Shreyas Iyer, the captain, has also been phenomenal. He’s had a few low scores, but when he gets going, he takes the team to a commanding position," Jadeja said. 

He went on to add: "Over the years, the team had a strong Australian presence—probably something the owners preferred—but this season, it’s the Indian players who are making the real impact. There’s a belief in the group from the very first game. They’ve played as a unit, without relying on just big names. Everyone’s contributing in their own way, and that’s been the biggest strength of this side.”

In their last IPL 2025 game, Punjab Kings took down Lucknow Super Giants by 37 runs at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. That win could have significant ramifications on the playoffs, as former India cricketer Anil Kumble had explained right after that match. 

"One of those teams could go through on net run rate. So just having an extra point doesn’t guarantee anything—you can’t afford to ignore net run rate. That’s why Punjab’s 37-run win was important. It’s still wide open,” Kumble had said on JioHotstar. 

Kolkata Knight Riders' chances of making it to the IPL playoffs are almost over. But they do have a sliver of hope. Barely.

Aakash Chopra discussed KKR's slim yet persistent hopes of qualifying for the TATA IPL playoffs on JioHotstar after their loss to CSK yesterday.

"Never say never. Even with a 0.1% chance, it's not over yet. As improbable as it seems, if there's still a chance, you keep fighting. Sport teaches you to never give up," Chopra said while talking about KKR. "By the next game, others might be out of contention, but while hope remains, KKR will push for it. They face tough fixtures ahead—SRH away and RCB away. While SRH is near the bottom, they have match-winners, and RCB will be keen to finish the season with a double. KKR's game against RCB will be a crucial one."

Both Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings come into this clash with playoffs on their mind, and in their sights.

Punjab, under new captain Shreyas Iyer, have a slightly easier task at hand this season, since they have 15 points from 11 games while Delhi have 13 from the same amount of games.

“I have had ups and downs in my career. I have seen the highest point as well as the lowest point in a very short span. But I feel very entertained by these trolls. I laugh at their creativity and memes. Earlier, I used to save these memes and messages so I could use those later but now I feel they don’t make any sense. However, I still enjoy looking at people’s creativity,” the pacer said in a ‘Kandid with Kings’ episode.
