Whatever said and done, last phase of my career, important to enjoy it. It feels good to be here. They have given a lot of love and affection. They always stay late to listen to me. You need time to pick his action (Pathirana). We have seen with Malinga - someone who has an awkward action and who is very consistent with line and length - it's difficult to score off him. I was hesitant to bat second. Had the feeling there won't be much dew. Overall the middle overs was the setup. Fast bowlers bowled very well in the last few overs. I always tell them that first preference of field setting is with you. Still they didn't give me best catch. I felt it was a fantastic catch. Long time back I still remember one game - Rahul Dravid was keeping and he caught one like that. Definitely old, can't shy away from that.
I appreciate it, nice to be there at the end and win it for the team. The plan was simple, we just try to play good cricket shots in the batting PP and put the bowlers under pressure (on the tactics between himself and Gaikwad). We got the best of the conditions honestly, the ball didn't hold as much as it did in the 1st innings, it wasn't the easiest, but was slightly easier (in the second innings). The Bengaluru pitch was a lot better, but we had to play in what was in front of us.
Disappointed again, never nice to lose. Not good with the bat, couldn’t build partnerships and then you struggle to put a good total. We certainly thought this wasn’t a 130 wicket, it was more around 160. Partnerships weren’t there, we couldn’t build momentum and credit to them for the way they bowled. (On CSK spinners) We knew they’d play a huge role, each person had a plan to counter them - you can either take them down or rotate strike and build partnerships. We had the plans but unfortunately couldn’t execute them. It is about taking on the bowlers in the powerplay, we need to stick to our aggressive approach. We have to look in and see how to get better with the bat, one or two guys need to put their hands up with the bat. Very pleased with the effort from our bowling group.
Chennai are on the brink of victory with 3 needed from 12. Washington Sundar to bowl the 19th and Moeen gets a single. 2 more to get. Another single by Conway. Looks like Moeen will get the winning hit. A dot follows. And a four to end. Chennai win by 7 wickets.
Umran Malik will bowl the 18th and just 1 from the first 2 balls. A single from the next two balls. Hyderabad are making Chennai work for the victory. Conway settles the nerves as he hits double fours to end te over. CSK 132/3 after 18 overs
Markande to finish his spell and gives away 1 from the first 2 balls. Just a single off the next 2 balls as Chennai are slow but steady. And bowled!!! What a beauty from Markande!!! That has completely bamboozled Rayudu. CSK 122/3 after 17 overs
Mayank Dagar in to bowl the 16th and Rayudu gets 2 off the first 2 balls. Huge shout for an LBW on Rayudu. The onfield umpire is stoic and Hyderabad review. Looked like it was missing the stumps. Pitching outside off and it's umpire's call. Ball tracking shows it's hitting the wickets. Rayudu takes 1 and Conway back on strike. He takes a single as well and Rayudu ends the over with a much needed boundary. Deft shot to get it. CSK 119/2 after 16 overs
Markande in to bowl the 15th and after conceding a four from Conway, he removes Rahane on the other end. Big edge and Markram takes the catch. CSK 110/2 after 14.4 overs
Mayank Dagar will bowl the 14th and starts with a dot. Great shot by Rahane, won't get a four but will get 2. The fourth ball is smashed through the covers for a four by Conway. CSK 104/1 after 14 overs
Markande bowled the 12th over and gave away just 4 runs with Ajinkya Rahane and devon Conway in the middle. Sundar in to bowl the 13th and Conway with a single to start. Rahane off the mark in this over with a single of his own. Just 4 off this over. CSK 95/1 after 13 overs
Mihir Vasavda: A ramp shot. A scoop. A pull. A deft touch. And a late cut. In one over, Devon Conway seems to have killed whatever hope there was for the Sunrisers to get back into the match. On a pitch where SRH batsmen struggled to get going, Devon Conway swung the momentum decisively in Chennai's favour with a five-ball onslaught during which he hit four fours and a six. On the receiving end was Marco Jansen, who until that moment was proving effective for the visitors. If the first three hits to the boundary, all coming in the same direction in the fine leg region, were all about courageous hitting, his last two shots were delicately played. No wonder he was all smiles at the end of the over, while his captain - Dhoni - sat content in the dressing room, seemingly pondering how he would have placed the fielders if he was on the field.
Umran Malik steaming in to bowl the 11th and starts with a bamboozling yorker!!! Follows it up with 2 more dots before Gaikwad finally gets off strike with a single off the 4th. and he has got a wicket to boot. Conway plays it straight, hits Malik's hands and the non striker's wicket is gone. Gaikwad was out of his crease and he has to walk back. Very unfortunate. CSK 87/1 aafter 11 overs
Markande to bowl the 10th and Gaikwad gets a single to start this one off. tries a sweep and it has just looped over in behind the keeper but just 1. Opens his hands and hits it over the circle to fetch 2. And Conway cuts the 5th ball for a four as he reaches his 3rd consecutive half century. CSK 86/0 after 10 overs
Umran Malik will bowl the 9th and Gaikwad takes 2 off his first delivery. 1 from the next 2 balls. This is turning out to be a decent over for Hyderabad as Umran keeps the Chennai batters at bay with his express pace. Just 7 off this one. CSK 77/0 after 9 overs
Mayank Markande in to bowl the 8th and SRH will hope that he can provide a breakthrough. 2 runs from his first two deliveries. A dot follows next as the CSK batters look to navigate the spin. CSK 70/0 after 8 overs
Washington Sundar in to bowl the 7th over and Gaikwad gets 3 from the first 2 balls. Solid partnership by the duo in the middle as Chennai are well and truly on their way. Just 6 off this over. CSK 66/0 after 7 overs.
Jansen to bowl the last over of the powerplay and yiels one off the 1st ball. Conway with a boundary which just evades a fielder to get a four. And another four follows. That is followed by a top edged six!!! 50 partnership up for the duo and CSK. And what do you know!!! That's four more as a meaty chunk of the target is chipped away. Ends with a boundary. CSK 60/0 after 6 overs
Bhuvneshwar wil bowl the 5th over and starts with a dot. Gaikwad gets the second ball away for a single. Another dot as Conway times it well but gets a fielder. Ufff!!! That was close as Gaikwad almost gets a fielder in the inner circle but it just evades him. CSK 37/0 after 5 overs
Jansen to bowl the 4th and starts off with a god one as Conway swings and misses. Follows that up with another dot. Conway gets a single off the 3rd and Gaikwad will face the remaining 3. Another single and Conway back on strike. Better over from Jansen. CSK 32/0 after 4 overs
Markram brings himself into the attack and Conway says thank you very much and hits a four off his first delivery. Make that 2 fours as Conways rocks back and plays an exquisite cut to pierce through the gap. 2 to end the over. CSK 28/0 after 3 overs
Jansen in to bowl the 2nd and Conway has played it straight up but it'll clear the infield and get 2 runs. Single off the next and Gaikwad back on strike.Gaikwad returns the favour and Conway goes over the top again with much better timing to get four. Off the pad for a single and Gaikwad will face the last ball of the over. He flicks it off his pads for four more. CSK 17/0 after 2 overs
Welcome back to the run chase as Hyderabad are out first, followed by the Chennai openers. Gaikwad and Conway are at the crease. Gaikwad is on strike. Bhuvneshwar will open the attack. And the first ball is creamed for a boundary by Gaikwad. Excellent start. One from the next 2 balls. CSK 6/0 after 1 over
Mihir Vasavda: With bat and between wickets, he might be showing signs of slowing with age but MS Dhoni is agile as ever behind the wickets. He displayed his alertness and quick reflexes early in the SRH innings when he nearly ran out Abhishek Sharma with a quick take and throw at the stumps, with his back facing the wickets. He'd attempted something similar in the last match, too, when he tried deflecting a throw from the deep directly onto the stumps. On Friday, he was involved in three dismissals - a sharp catch to dismiss Markram off Theekshana, despite having very little time to react, following it up with a quick stumping to send Agarwal back to the dugout before running out Jansen on the last ball of the innings.
Pathirana to bowl the last over and gives away just 2 from the first 2 deliveries. A dot follows. Excellent death over bowling. That's a four next by Jansen to give SRH something to cheer about. Short ball gets a dot next. Fantastic bowling by the 20-year-old. Ends with awicket as Dhoni with the run out. SRH finish at 134/7 after 20 overs
The penultimate over of the innings as Tushar Deshpande will bowl this one. Sundar shovels it for a single straight away. Jansen on strike. A slower ball next as Jansen swings and misses. Washington Sundar gets a bat to the 4th ball and gets a four!! Just 8 from this one. SRH 127/6 after 19 overs
Pathirana to bowl the 18th and Klaasen off srike with a single. Jansen swings the bat at the second delivery but only reaches the man in the deep for a single. And gone!!! Superb catch by Gaikwad who dives and picks up Klaasen's wicket as the South African was going for a drive. SRH 116/6 after 17.3 overs
Theekshana will bowl the 17th over and Jansen takes 2 off his first delivery. Klaasen hits a four finally off the 4th ball as a boundary comes after long last. SRH 114/5 after 17 overs
Pathirana steams in to bowl the 16th and yields just 3 from the first 3 ball. Excellent bowling. Just from the next two balls. It's been a while since the last boundary, 32 balls to be exact as the over ends for just 4 runs. SRH 106/5 after 16 overs
Mihir Vasavda: A wry smile, clenched fists and three claps. It means only one thing - Ravindra Jadeja has taken a wicket. Three in 3 overs, in fact. The last one, though, was the most dramatic of them. The over started with Jadeja getting into an altercation of sorts with Heinrich Klaasen. Mayank Agarwal had hit one straight down the ground and as Jadeja scampered across to catch it, he clattered into Klaasen who had little time to get out of the way at the non-striker's end. Jadeja, though, wasn't amused as he gave him a deep, angry stare. A couple of balls later, Jadeja had his man. Agarwal danced down the wicket, Jadeja saw him stepping out and fired one outside off. Agarwal failed to connect and Dhoni did the rest. Jadeja broke into his trademark celebration and while doing so, also gave a piece of his mind to Klaasen.
Theekshana to bowl the 15th and after 3 runs from the first 3 balls, Hyderabad trudge to 100 runs. And the bails are off again but Jansen is safe. SRH 102/5 after 15 overs
Jadeja in to bowl the 14th and after 4 runs fromthe first 3 balls, which included a dropped catch, he makes amends as Dhoni is lightning quick behind the stumps. Looks like out but there's a review. And replays show that it's gone. SRH 97/5 after 14 overs
Theekshana in to bowl the 13th and that's 2 runs from the first 2 balls. 2 more from the next 2. And Theekshana strikes!! Markram gets an edge and Dhoni takes the catch. SRH 90/4 after 12.5 overs
Jadeja will bowl the 12th and Markram starts with a single. And the all rounder strikes again as Tripathi mishits the sweep shot, gets the top edge and Akash Singh takes an easy catch. SRH 84/3 after 11.2 overs
Matheesha Pathirana introduced in the attack now amnd he'll bowl the 11th over. Two runs from 2 balls as the batter finds out pretty late where the ball will drop due to his Malingaesque delivery. Markram plays the 3rd ball on with precision and gets a four!! SRH 83/2 after 11 overs
Jadeja will bowl the 10th over and strikes!! Sharma tries to go for a bi shot in order to get Hyderabad going but he just finds SAjinkya Rahane in the deep. SRH 71/2 after 10.2 overs
Moeen Ali will bowl the 9th over and after one from the first two deliveries, Tripathi flicks the 3rd for a four. Good over nontheless with just 8 from it. SRH 70/1 after 9 overs
Ravindra Jadfeja in to bowl the 8th and Sharma with a 4 to start. Good comeback by the bowler with just 3 off the remaining 5 balls. SRH 62/1 after 8 overs
Mihir Vasavda: Harry Brook's stay in the middle was brief but quite eventful. Especially the last few balls of his innings. On the third ball of the fourth over, Brook tried to execute a scoop over short fine leg but failed to connect. However, more than being disappointed with his execution, he looked shocked that the umpire didn't call it a wide. He shrugged that one off, and on the next ball, tried to get a cheeky single. After Abhishek Sharma was quick to send him back and again, Brook couldn't hide his disappointment. One could sense frustration creeping in. He hit the next two balls for four, giving the impression that he was slowly finding his rhythm. But his stay in the middle ended in the next over, when he was caught at backward point off Akash Singh. As he walked back to the dugout, he stared accusingly at his bat, with a sullen look on his face.
Moeen Ali introduced in the attack and Tripathi welcomes him with a six!!! Two more runs from the ensuing 2 balls. Another one from the 4th ball as the Sunrisers are aiming to go after the CSK spinner but can't get a good touch off the bat. SRH 55/1 after 7 overs
Maheesh Theekshana will bowl the last over inside the powerplay. Sharma gets off strike with a single. The next ball is swept by Sharma but gets a leg bye. Sharma tries to go for a big hit and it's just over Gaikwad while Moeen Ali saves a boundary. The over and powerplay ends with a four by Sharma. SRH 45/1 after 6 overs
Akash Singh to bowl the penultimate over inside the powerplay and that's 1 run. They want two but it was not there as a mixup almost costs them a wicket. And gone next ball!! Brook slashes at the shot and it's straight at Jadeja as he pulls off a great catch. SRH 36/1 after 4.2 overs
Tushar Deshpande in to bowl the fourth and Sharma helps the first delivery on for a single. Brook back on strike. The Englishman flicks to his leg side for 2 more runs. Tries a ramp shot next but misses it and the ball is straight to Dhoni. Finally, Brook gets to open his arms with a lot of room provided to him and smacks Deshpande's 5th for a four!!! Ends the over with another four off the ramo shot. SRH 34/0 after 4 overs
Akash Singh to bowl the 3rd over and Brook starts with 2 runs. After a dot ball next, Brook gets an inside edge and gets a single. Shouts of catch it but Sharma easily clears the boundary with a six. Great pick up shot, that. SRH 23/0 after 3 overs
Tushar Deshpande in to bowl the second over and starts with a wide. There's a chance for a run out at the non striker's rend as harry Brook but Moeen Ali misses his throw. Penny for Brook's thoughts at the moment. Sharma with a flick off is leg side next as the ball goes high and falls safely. 2 more runs. Huge bouncer as Dhoni does well to prevent it going over everyone's heads. Sharma ends the over on a high with another four. SRH 13/0 after 2 overs
Harry Brook and Abhishek Sharma are at the crease. Harry Brook is on strike. Akash Singh will open the attack. Brook off the mar straightaway with a single. The 2nd and the 3rd balls are dots. A single next as Sharma rotates strike. Lovely drive by Harry Brook to end the over with a boundary. SRH 6/0 after 1 over

'There was a bit of drizzle earlier, but we should have a full match. One square boundary is short at 62m, the other is at 70m. The straight boundary is at 75m and some large pockets as well. This is pitch number 6 and there were a lot of runs in the last game that was played on this (match 6 of the IPL with scores of 217 and 205). There are a few cracks, but it is rock hard. As a pacer, you need to have variations to succeed on this pitch, same goes for the spinners. But in one sentence, the batters should have a field day today,' says Pommie Mbangwa.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (Playing XI): Harry Brook, Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram(c), Heinrich Klaasen(w), Abhishek Sharma, Washington Sundar, Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Markande, Umran Malik
Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI): Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni(w/c), Maheesh Theekshana, Tushar Deshpande, Akash Singh, Matheesha Pathirana
MS Dhoni: We'll bowl first. This pitch is 50-50 because it is slightly cloudy. There might be dew so always better to chase. All packed together on the points table, we need to do well and not look at the table at this moment. Combination wise, we have been fortunate because we haven't had all players available. The headaches start later when everyone becomes available.
Aiden Markram: We'd have also bowled first. We had a good game against KKR batting first, so hopefully we can take a leaf out of that. I think we need to get the whole game good together, one skill is good and the other not as much, so we are working on it. If one of them is having a good night, they have to make it big. Hectic schedules but we are not complaining, the IPL allows us the chance to travel around and meet different fan bases. We've got the same 16 from the MI game, but since we are batting first here, there will be a change to the XI.
Time for the toss. The captains are in the middle. The coin goes up and MS dhoni wins the toss and Chennai Super Kings opt to bowl first.
Royal Challengers bowler Mohammed Siraj rules the roost in the Purple Cap race with 12 wickets. He is followed by LSG's Mark Wood (11), RR's Yuzvendra Chahal (11), GT's Rashid Khan (11) and GT's Mohammad Shami (10). Check out the Purple Cap standings here

As Chennai preapre to face Hyderabad in the Chepauk, there's a conundrum about their overseas combination in te starting XI. If Stokes is fit, who will he displace? Devon Conway is the most likely option but he has had a great start to the season. Hyderabad, meanwhile, have a stern test ahead of them with their batters not entirely comfortable against spinners and Chepauk will ideally a decent amount of turn. Like many other players in the Chennai Super Kings ranks, batter Shivam Dube has also benefitted due to the mentorship of MS Dhoni.
“Mahi Bhai once told me something and those are the most encouraging and motivating words for me. He said “You’re good just be fearless,” the player who scored 52 in 27 balls against RCB said.
Matheesha Pathirana's viral video had reached Chennai Super Kings captain MS dhoni back in 2021 and he was immediately hooked. 20-year-old Pathirana has a bowling action similar to Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga and has earned the nickname of Baby Malinga from the CSK fans.
