The English cricketers just can’t seem to catch a break, and now a funny incident from a Perth cafe was revealed by cricket writer Cameron Ponsonby reported in his latest post for Cricket Et Al, as per Fox Cricket.

Saying the current mini-series break on a beach at Noosa after England went down 0-2 to the Aussies will be a “paparazzi’s dream”, Ponsonby recalled an unfortunate incident at a riverside cafe in Perth where the first Test was played, involving Brydon Carse, Harry Brook and Zak Crawley.

Fox quoted the writer as recounting that the trio went for brunch and Carse “had thousands of dollars in cash in his pocket that fell out and blew across the local area.”

He continued: “A scene from a cartoon, it took a community effort of mums, children and flat white drinkers to gather the notes and return them to the table of wealthy cricketers. They were polite, embarrassed, but the bad thing had happened anyway. The tour is going much the same way.”

After Brendon McCullum said the English were in dire need of a break, Stokes defended what he walked a ‘much-needed getaway’ which he said was important for players to decompress.

“We have been here four weeks and they have been pretty full on,” he told reporters of the Noosa trip.

“As physical as this game is, a huge part of it is also the mental side of it. I know that. I have experienced that. I know what the game can do to you when things aren’t quite feeling right or going well. Trust me when I say it is so, so important for teams to be able to go away as a team and almost put the pressures aside for a couple of days.”

The time in-between Tests has become contentious, also for choice of warmups not just rest. Guardian wrote that the ECB is prepared to offer Australia its pick of warmup facilities before the next Ashes in 2027 in a bid to get similar treatment in return ahead of the 2029-30 series down under.

England were seeking guarantees on “high‑class facilities, on similar surfaces and in similar weather to those they will face in Tests, and matches against high‑quality opposition if desired”, wrote Guardian.

In the lead up to the first Test, England had asked to use the WACA but that wasn’t granted due to a Sheffield Shield game between Western Australia and Queensland.
